You should exercise whatever you have time. If you are free entire day the best time would be early in the day after you had something to eat. After you wake up and eat breakfast, you're energized and you will probably get the best workout in. If you decide to go when you get off work in the afternoon you might be too tired. If you make it to gym you might not work as hard as you would like.

When I was in the military we would exercise right after we woke up. This would be around 5am-6am before breakfast. Within 2 months I got into the best shape of my life. We would exercise for 1 hour and 6 days a week. I'm not sure if this works for everyone but it worked wonders for me.

Personally, I find it best in the morning before anything else. This way you start your day fresh and relaxed. But on the other hand everyone has got what works best for them. There are those who prefer working out in the evening. So it all depends with each person.

I like exercising in the morning because that time is when I have the most creativity. Usually in the afternoon I can get lazy and relaxed with only the TV and food on my mind. In that state of mind, it's harder to bring myself to want to go to the gym. In contrast, when I wake up, I have the most patience to do whatever is needed to be done that day. Exercise is like work for the body and I feel more ready to clock-in in the morning.

I find the best time to exercise and go to the gym would be in the afternoon. After work, you still have some energy to spare before getting to rest. Exerting effort before dinner (the dinner becoming essentially your recovery meal) gives you a good time to get yourself fit. However, it depends on the person basically - some of us prefer going to the gym in the morning, some at midday and some at night.
