TVs are a huge part of our lives nowadays but can they break a relationship. Basing on the programmes running or maybe the addiction that comes along, I think they can. Who can prove me wrong?

I certainly believe TV can break a relationship. TV can change the direction of someone's thinking or have them feel that certain things are now a reality. Some people tend to try and base their lives off of what they see and hear on TV. Perception is reality to most people, and the perception of how life is that's given from TV can ruin a relationship if the mind's of the people involved are closed off.

Television on its own cannot break a relationship. However, spending too much time watching television can be toxic. As it turns out, the more realistic you find depictions of TV romance, the less likely you are to be wholly committed to your actual relationship. Plus, you’re also more likely to see marriage as a burden, and be open to the idea that there’s someone better out there. On-again, off-again relationships in TV shows, built up by sweeps weeks and season finales impact what you think a husband or boyfriend should be.

Most married people aren’t surrounded by available, attractive singles the way Hollywood portrays,” says Osborn. But seeing it on TV might make you wonder if maybe you should audition for the next season of "The Bachelorette". Resist the temptation and let this ease your worries about your partner. Even a moderate acceptance that fictional relationships represent something true to life could result in a false sense of what love is.

It depends on a number of factors. For example, a person can be an addict of a particular sport like football and choose to prioritize it over his or her partner. However for some people it doesn't affect at all and some partners do not even mind at all.

No, TV cannot break a relationship. The attitude that a person has can break a relationship. Let's say for example that you are in a relationship with someone who is addicted to sports. And they start to neglect you, and all they do is watching sports non stop. You break up and you think that the existance of the TV did that, but I think that even if the TV did not exist, something else would've catch your ex's attention and the things would've ended up in the same place, because that person cannot give you what you need, you are not compatible with each other. Of course TV is an influence, but so are other things like phones, clubs, casinos and many others. You can't avoid everything in order to maintain a relationship. The right person will show you that attitude is everything and that's what keeps a relationship alive.

Television can both break and enhance relationships. It depends on the couple and their likes and dislikes. There is nothing more unromantic than your partner hogging the remote, but there's nothing more romantic than cosying up and watching tv together.

Personally, I don't think television can break a relationship in any way. It all depends on how you both understand each other and your likings. In the first place you are supposed to understand that you are two different people with different tastes. So when you decided to be partners you signed up to compromise some things for the sake of your relationship.
For instance if your partner is a football fan you don't expect him to stop watching just because he is in a relationship with you. On the contrary you should support him .

It honestly depends on how sensitive your romantic patner is. If he/she cannot stand you being in nude scenes with other actors then it will cause problems.

Distance can also be part of it as some tv shows shoot across the country or even the world from where the actors' families are so it could be strainious on the relationship.

I agree with this. If you’re investing more time in watching television than in spending it with your partner, that’s obviously bound to cause issues.

But if television is able to destroy your relationship, you probably didn’t have a very strong relationship to begin with. It seems to me like an isue of maturity.
