"An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind"

This famous quote refers to an Old Testament reference regarding the legal penalties for violence. Gandhi rejected violence as a means to change, and only engaged in peaceful ways of protest.

I believe that this dies make the world blind. We look at the wars, both parties killing each other thinking they are right. Both parties have reason on why they fought a war, yet this war is only destroying themselves. When we look at the countries that are at war right now, the whole world indeed has become blind, we ignore their citizens plea for help, innocents citizens were killed yet we do nothing. We rarely hear news about them, and we treat it like it is normal in their country. In fact News about theft is more abundant than news about the situation in that country.

I do believe this quote renders us blind. By making others “pay” for what they did to you, you are no better than them. Taking an eye for an eye does nothing but add fuel to the flame. It blinds you from seeing that whoever wronged you may be crying out for help.
