This is a hypothetical situation and, therefore, a hypothetical question.

What if, one day, everyone realized that there were no firearms of any sort on the planet anymore? Do you think the psychology of people would change? Do you think we would become more peaceful simply out of the fact that we don't have those particular weapons that could instantly injure or kill others?

I understand that there were people prone to violent behaviour since the dawn of time, but at this juncture of time, do you think this scenario would alter peoples' psychological state?

This is not a post about whether we should have guns or not. It is more about what effects you think guns have on people.

    Discuss.

I do not think it would change people one way or the other if there were no guns. There will always be a way to kill or injure someone. If we were to wake up one day without guns, people would just figure out other ways to kill or injure another human being or animal. It is survival of the fittest. The response to fight is engraved in everyone's brain but few have the psychology to act on it.

Imagine a world without firearms of any sort. There will not be a need to have a large army.

President Kim Jong-un will not hold the world ransom by building up nuclear arms.

    China will not bully Taiwan.

Crime rate in the Philippines might drop.

It will be an interesting world if we had no firearms, but like what Amy Terry said in her post, man will find other means to cause destruction.

I agree with Amy Terry. We would just simply revert back to the methods of killing that people used before firearms existed. The only way people would be peaceful is if we didn't have the emotions, problems, and disorders that lead to murder. Like the old saying goes "guns don't kill people, people kill people"; firearms are simply tools that aid in a person's intentions to kill.
