If you are asked about the applications of mathematics in working life, you may not think that one answer is that it helps fight crime. If we ask any passer-by in the street about his opinion of mathematics, unfortunately their answers will often be: "dull math", "rigid mathematics", "mathematics is not related to practical life", "scary math". Maths may seem far from the realm of investigations and crimes, but in fact they are combined with the methods used by police to investigate crimes such as fingerprinting, accident reconstruction, car plate numbers, and traces of poison.
    Challenges facing the police:
The police face many challenges when investigating an offense. They must find out what happened at the scene of the crime or accident. They must interpret the puzzling data that must be stored and prospected for information, and it is in the interest of justice that physical and electronic evidence remain safe.
