The benefits of breastfeeding are so many. They include; Increased intelligence,a lower likelihood of contracting middle ear infection, cold and flu, lowered risk of onset of childhood diabetes, obesity, dental problems and a decreased risk of developing psychological disorders.
Colostrum ,the initial milk is rich in immune antibiotics and proteins, which coat the gastrointestinal tract of the baby. This help protect the new born until it's own immune system is functioning properly. It also helps to prevent build up of bilurubin,a byproduct of breakdown of blood, which can cause jaundice.
Breastmilk is essential to all new born babies and mothers should ensure that their babies are exclusively breastfed for the first six months.

You are absolutely right @beenarabdi, the American Academy Of Pediatrics recommends that babies are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life and that recommendation is given based off the fact that there are so many benefits for breastfeeding both for mothers and for babies.
A lot of moms make the decision to breastfeed because they know it's best for their baby but they don't realize there are many benefits for them too. There are so many health benefits, it helps you to recover faster from delivery because the hormone of let down that causes your milk to release so that your baby can eat is oxytocin. It is also the same hormone that causes you to have contractions during labor, so when you breastfeed it actually helps your uterus to cramp down to its pre-pregnant size and heal faster.
It also helps to control postpartum bleeding and postpartum depression. Other added health benefits include a reduced risk of developing ovarian and breast cancer later in life as well as other serious medical conditions like type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
As for babies the benefits are endless like you mentioned earlier @beenarabdi. Breast milk has the perfect balance of nutritions that a baby needs during their first year of life, it is easy to digest and it comes with disease fighting properties that help to protect them against illness. It is a fact that breastfed babies actually have less illnesses and infections over the first year of life. They also vomit less, have less diarrhea, have a lower chance of developing allergies and reduces the risks of sudden infant death syndrome during the first year of life. As you can see breastfeeding is always best if possible.

Generally the mother's milk contains all the nutrients that the baby needs to grow and be healthy.

@Markmaria, well said. Particularly since for more than 6 months that's all a baby drinks. It must contain all sorts of nutrients and maybe also very tasty. ;)
