Straight talk time: I've been afflicted with at least a mild case of insomnia. I think it's a combination of work-related stress, generally bad sleeping habits, and loud people upstairs. (I live in a basement apartment.) I'm running on not nearly enough sleep right now, which makes the cogency of this post rather remarkable. Regardless, I need some help.

One surefire way to cure insomnia is to stop using backlighted devices. The blue light that your screen emits is partly to blame for your sleeplessness. It also helps if you free your mind of heavy thoughts and meditate. Meditation is the best way to have restful sleep because it frees your mind with all the clutters. Also drinking warm milk before going to bed helps. Creating a routine is a perfect way to combat insomnia. Nothing beats creating a daily routine to set your body and prepare it for bed time.

A good night of sleep is a luxury to an insomniac and most would pay a premium to have it. An efficient and priceless method of combating insomnia is by adjusting ones' biological clock by sleeping and waking up at the same time. Having a hot water bath before sleeping and several glasses of hot milk is also quite effective. In addition, steaming your face over hot water always pays dividends.

First of all, you have to figure out why you are having problems to sleep, because depending on that, is the treatment. It worth to mention than no matter what the source is, is not normal and you have to visit an specialist. If it's organic, you have to consult your doctor to prescribe you a medicine, because is missing something in your body that makes you stay awake (or have too much) and the medicine helps you to regulate that. If it's emotional (stress, depression) you need psychiatric and psychological help, to find out and solve the problem that keeps you awake, in both case, it's really helpful do some daily exercises, get your body a little more tired and the exercise helps to release some problems.

As paola said, it may be completely organic, so the best thing to do is look for a doctor. Exercises are really good because they will get you more tired, but mainly because you will be much more relaxed. If you cannot stop thinking about your problems or your duties, to help you relieve stress, some good meditation techniques are worth a try. Of course, it may not work for you, so you need to find your own way to get more relaxed.

Turn off all electronic devices at least an hour before going to bed. (Use that hour to read, take a hot water bath or shower, drink a glass of water or hot tea). Also, try doing yoga or stretches synchronized to deep breathing before bed to lower your blood pressure and help your muscles wind down. White noise, ocean sounds, or soothing music can also be helpful in aiding insomnia. If all else fails, melatonin works wonders. However, as has been previously suggested, if the insomnia persists or gets worse after trying a few different routines, you should look into seeing a doctor to rule out underlying causes or anything more serious.

The key to sleeping better is to first ask yourself why you are not able to sleep. There are several reasons why you may not be sleeping, including stress, side effects of medications, caffeine or alcohol consumption, and/or medical reasons like sleep apnea. Once you have identified the cause of your sleepless nights simply eliminate them from your daily routine if possible. If the cause is related to medication side effects be sure to see your medical doctor before stopping your medication. There are also simple things you can implement into your daily routine to help you rest better at night. Starting a sleep hygiene routine can help with your problem. Taking a bath one hour before you turn in can help to relax your mind and body. Turning off electronic devices two to three hours before bed can help you to change your focus and quiet your mind. Additionally, following a set time schedule can also help you to sleep better. The list could go on and on, but the first thing I would suggest is that you try to determine the cause of your sleepless nights so that you can fix the problem for good.

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep or cause you to wake up early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up. Insomnia can sap not only your energy level and mood but also your health, work performance and quality of life. How much sleep is enough varies from person to person, but most adults need 7 to 8 hours a night.

In order to sleep better, you need to establish a regular bedtime routine. Find activities that helps you wind down before bed and stick to the same sleep-wake schedule even on weekends. Try also on finding the position most comfortable for you when you sleep. Avoid coffee and alcohol towards bedtime, try to eat dinner at least four hours before going to bed and avoid activities such as watching a late night movie and playing video games.
