I thought I would have a look at this forum, but joining it seems impossible. I have to enter the forum owners first name on his twitter account. Tried to do that. I must be getting it wrong somehow. Tried it with a capital and without a capital. Tried the letters before and after the @ and have got fed up trying. How can a forum be so top secret and difficult to join? I've four tabs open on my browser trying to figure out the verification. I give up, not into wasting my time like that sorry!

No it's not paid posting @to7update but I didn't mind that. But any writing is good for practice huh? ;)

I was practicing by writing a short story about an old couple, where the Husband stumbles upon a couple of burglars burying their loot. I gave it to my Mom to read and she was not a very happy bunny. She told me she was that age:eek: and strongly put it over to me that she was not so wrinkly and parkinson bound, :D:Dso posting on forums is a nice and safe practice!

I've still not figured out how to change my characters!

I think the moral of the story has to be.... Don't ask ya Mom for feedback!:p

Seriously, don't ask non-writers for feedback, at least not people who cast themselves in the story! I asked my mother for feedback on a story about a group of old men and she told me off for saying such horrible things about my grandfather...for some reason she had decided the villain of the piece was based on him. Actually none of them were. :(

I think you're right there @Flyer. I asked her to check my grammar and sentence structure along with what she thought of the plot. I think I can gather something here, that readers relate the characters to themselves or people they know. Maybe consciously or subconsciously I'm not sure but it seems to be the case.

I haven't asked her for any feedback since. I thought she would be good for it because she belongs to a book club reading circle. Still, she told me she enjoyed the plot and wanted to read the rest of it. I don't think I'll be giving it to her, though, and I haven't given her any of my other stories to check out either!:)
