There are forums that have unpaid sections (we post and don't get credited). I think it would be fair that those sections had to be listed on the forum description.

I don't know how that's possible given the computer code. Pretty much a whole forum is up for grabs regarding points. Note, an owner can tell someone to not post in a certain area, but a person would still get points if they disobeyed.

Yeah, me neither, but the fact is there are a few forums with unpaid sections.

On the forum owner's end, there is no technical way to keep certain areas of a forum from having posts. However, a forum owner can threaten bans or lower ratings to those who post in certain areas. However, they cannot get their credits back unless they ask TFW administration.

It depends on which forum software the site is using.

It is possible to stop people posting in a certain section.

It is also possible to stop the posts in certain sections from counting in the overall user post count.

These features can be found in exactly the same software that this site is using. They are not active by default but can be activated in a few clicks.

These features can be quite useful to some forum admin's. (I am not referring to gaining free posts from TFW posters)

Which returns us to the initial point. Forums using forum wheel are making some sections unpaid, and are not listing this in their instructions. This should be a requirement.

Hmm, this is my first time hearing of something like this.

This is how I was thinking things are, and didn't know/hadn't given any thought to forum owners having unlisted unpaid sections.

Yep, that's what I am saying. On the forum rules should be information on which sections are paid.

And not ask as a requirement to post on unpaid sections. At least one forum says: "post and introduction", but that is not paid.

Posting in any section I'm sure is fine with some owners, but it's rude to post too much in certain sections. For instance, it's common sense that someone who only posts in off-topic would get on a forum owner's bad side.

That doesn't relate at all to the problem we are discussing. Which is forum owners getting on our nerves by having unidentified unpaying forum areas.

On my forums, there is now a part in the rules saying that all parts of the forum can give equal points. However, how can users who are already signed up access the rules?

Anyhow, any changes must come from TFW admin, cause forum owners have no mechanism in the control panel to make certain sections unpaid.

Well, some of them are managing it somehow. I don't want to call out specific forums in public, but some of them do have subforums that are uncredited/unpaid. I am clearly not the only one to notice.

If yours are all credited/paid, I don't think that requires and special mention. That's great.

Your forums work perfectly and all sections are paid, you're a great forum owner as far as I am concerned. :)

I'm guessing this is about my site. I have set it up so that all new threads in the introductions forum do not count towards the post count. I have done this because in the rules I have asked people to post an introduction and upload an avatar. I feel like I should not have to pay you to follow rules which is why I have done that. It's not a huge ask and it's not like the whole forum doesn't count towards posts

    What is your site @kingcool52?

Writers don't get paid for following rules, but for writing. You are asking us to write one free post, and you are right, it's not a big deal, but it would be nice that the information that the post if free was available, or else we might even think there is a technical issue.

Your forum is not the only one doing it though.

LazyForums. I guess I should, but most likely people will not post introductions after informing of this. What I will have to do is rate people low for not following rules

Well, I would have no problems posting my intro even if it was free, it's just a post. It does discourage replies on that section though.

I disagree with this statement that writers do not get paid for following the rules. That is a very important part of being a content writer on a forum, and there is no reason at all why a forum owner would want to pay for any content that was not in accordance with the forum rules, and also no reason why a writer should even want to not follow the forum rules if they want to write there.
All of the forums can post the rules for joining their forum that writers can read before deciding whether to join that forum or not. On the forum page, there is a blue "i" icon that gives information about each forum, and you should read this before registering for a forum. If you do not like following the forum rules, then don't join the forum, simple as that.

As far as there being paid sections and unpaid sections, this is a good way for forum owners to only pay for relevant content, and not for posts in an off-topic section. When it is a general forum, this is not usually necessary; but when the forum has a specific subject, then the forum owner only wants to pay for on-topic posts usually.
As far as introductions, this might be a controversial issue.
While it is fine to post an introduction (and even requested on some forums), some people will go through the new introduction posts and just welcome people to the forum instead of writing posts with actual relevant content.
I do not think that it is unreasonable for a forum owner to request a writer to post an introduction even if it is an unpaid section. We are only talking about one short post, and it is not much more time-consuming than finding and posting an avatar.
