One of the disappointing things about music is the fact that songs eventually get old. If you listen to a song too often you can even grow sick of it. This has always been the case for me.

I do know a few people, however, that don't experience this as much. I know one girl in particular that could listen to a song 5 times per day and never grow sick of it. That would drive me insane.

So how is it for you?

Do songs eventually grow old after a while?

How many times can you listen to a song before you get tired of it?

For me - or rather, for certain songs - the ambiance has to be just right in order for me to listen to it? I don't know if I am explaining myself correctly here, but if I don't listen to certain songs when the atmosphere is ripe for it, then I can't fully appreciate the song. This little issue actually helps to prevent songs from being overplayed, because in every day life there are going to be times where it is not the perfect time to play those certain songs.

I will often wait until I can really appreciate music until listening to it, and it really feels as though I am listening with fresh ears. But even if I was to listen to a song over and over again, I don't think that I'd get sick of it as much as I'd start to phase out the detail, and the important bits that once used to touch me.

I have certain songs that have meaning to me and I can put them on repeat for hours and not get tired of them. Sometimes songs will give you a boost or make you feel better, so I have playlists for different moods and often I will keep that playlist on repeat for hours.

I don't get bored, but some songs I have to be in the mood to listen to, because that's what music is about, to put you in a good mood. I like to create new playlists every now and then and I still add a few old favorites in like 'Moon River', because I can never get bored some songs.

I have many songs that never go old, and I can listen to them over and over again :) Depend on my mood, I can replay one song for 24 hours and still feel every bit of the feeling that I had when I first heard it. Call me odd, but certain songs just shoot straight to my heart and stay there. I might leave them for a while, but then always come back to them.

I am definitely a one time listener of a song or album, and then I need a few weeks to be interested in hearing it again. I have way too many good songs to spend any time listening to them over and over or again and again.

Of course having the attention span of a 3 year old, helps - if my wife plays something again and again. I just pretend it is the first time I have heard it.

Life is just too short to listen to bad music or read bad books.

I know exactly what you mean. My emotions dictate what I listen to. Sometimes I just want something mellow in the background and I love a lot of variety - I want to hear songs I haven't heard in a while. But other times, when I'm feeling emotional, I'll play 4 or 5 songs over and over - especially the ones that "speak" to me. For me, songs are like poetry - they express all the emotions and feelings I can't express myself. Singing along is cathartic. I'm in my 50s, but sometimes really enjoy "teen angst" songs - my 25 year old son laughs at me and tells me I'm too old to listen to them. But for some reason, they have meaning for me.

It really is true - that music has powers to soothe the savage beast. Good music should make you feel something. And if I'm in the right mood, I will listen to songs over and over. Then I'll move on to something else when the situation passes. There have been times, when I'll hear a song that I listened to incessantly years before, and now I don't really like it - I guess I'm just in a different place now than I was then, and it doesn't have the same meaning. Or, maybe I'm just tired of it!

5 times a day is a piece of cake for me.
I am such a melomaniac, I can actually listen to a song I really like, on repeat, around 30 or more times a day. I have gone as far as listening to a song more than 100 times a day. That means almost constantly having in in my ears...
It has driven me insane only once, because I was hooked on certain lyrics that had to deal with death, and I have a severe fear of dying young at that time... so it felt like I was having the thought all over again in my brain, and it felt like I could almost make it happen, like the law of attraction.
Other than that, I usually grow out of a song that way, but it doesn't matter, because I am quick to find a new one to obsess over ;)

It depends on the song and my mood. Sometimes I can listen to a song a few times and be fine, other times I will be listening to Pandora and get annoyed when the same song places twice in an entire playlist. My 7 year old can put a song on repeat and dance and sing to it for an hour without losing any steam. Sometimes in the car alone if I am belting out lyrics and feeling the song I will replay it once or twice.

If it is a song that I really enjoy, a timeless classic that never gets old or a song that reminds me of my childhood and gives me good memories, I could listen to that same song over and over again. I remember the listening to the "Faith" album from George Michael when I was a teen. I would constantly play the songs "Hard Day, Father Figure and Hand to Mouth" because they were my favorites and I still do so today.

Personally I always fall into the mistake of listening to a song I really love over and over and over till I get so sick of it, I never wanna listen to it again. I really wish I would stop myself, but once I love it I cant stop listening to it, I love finding new music so once I do I get pretty excited. I will listen to a song about 50 times before it starts getting old. Once it starts feeling a little old, I will try to stop listening to it Before I completely hat it.

Yes songs always get old. Some sound very much of the 1980's when I was a kid, and may sound a bit cheesy or cringe-worthy. I'd avoid anything that makes me feel like that. Otherwise I always go back to many favourite songs, singers or bands. There will always be music that I'll never tire of, be it music that I have on my computer that I'll play when ironing; or something I come across on YouTube, which I haven't heard for ages. It's never cool to buy a track and then repeatedly listen to it, that has always been a no-no! I must admit I stop myself as I think I'm getting to that point, as I guess we can all be at risk of doing that, if we like it. Then as above you play it too often and then don't bother for ages. I agree there are so many timeless classics, or music that I think will be timeless in years to come, that I'd never tire of.

Depends on my reason for liking a particular song. If a song latches on to me for good, I can listen to it continuously through a year on and off. Sometimes three four times in a loop. There's this song "Superstar" by Broods, it isn't a very spectacular song, but for some reason it has stayed with me since I heard it last winter. The day I first heard it I played it some 100 times that day. I was addicted to it for a week. Even now I end up playing it at least 2-3 times a week, it hasn't got old and stale yet!

After 5 times I get tired of a song unless it is spaced out properly. If spaced out about every 5 to 10 days then I could listen to it for months.

I can listen to a song over, and over. I know of a number of songs that I listen to all the time. If I listen to it. I never get bored to the song that I like.
Sometimes I listen to one song about 8 times and even the next day and back listening to that song. Some song just makes you happy. Even if I'm doing work on the computer that song is playing in the back ground. I never get bored of a song I like.

To be completely honest I can listen to a song on repeat for days at a time. After a while I will definitely get tired of it and retire it for some time. Very few songs can get me to be this crazy over them, but once I am hooked I am hooked. Once I have retired the song for a while, I can pick the song back up right where I left off and love it just the same. Though I may not put it back on repeat as much, I still get excited when I do hear it.

I don't like to hear something more than a few times a day, or else I'll get sick of it quicker. I'll get bored of a song and change it after it plays, I've not really played anything "on loop" but the radio station can become a bit repetitive, so I just rip a CD every few days and just listen to those. Less ads, too!

A lot of those new songs get old for me pretty fast because they're broadcasted by every radio station and TV channel.
This doesn't happen with the rock genre though.
I can listen to my favorite rock bands thousands of times and I'll never get tired of hearing them once again.
I miss the times when the music that was broadcasted was good.

It really depends on how good the song is. If the song is a 6 (Scale of 1-10) Then I'm guessing I would listen to it like a total of 10 times then I would get tired of it. If it's more higher like an 8 then maybe I would listen to it 15 times. It honestly all comes down to the beat and rthym of the song. There are some that I can listen to for hours and there's some that I can't bear to listen for even a minute.

I find it hard to listen to one particular song several times at any given day. But I know some of my friends can. Maybe twice in a row is enough or until I get familiar with it and that is it. It does not matter whether I like the song or not, I get bored easily and I always seek something fresh or new.

An infinite amount of times! Haha, if I like a song, I can literally have it on repeat all day. I don't get sick of it! The other say I was stuck in my room for about two hours and I had the same song on repeat for the entire duration. My iTunes numbers are pretty interesting with keeping some songs on repeat for so long.
