The only bone I have ever broken in my body was my ankle. This is not much of a story, but I was skateboarding down a hill going quite slow. Somehow I tripped and landed funny on my ankle. I was devastated when I found out it was broken because I am a sprinter. Fortunately, my ankle is 99% healed today!

Have you ever broken a bone? What is your story?

Several years ago, I fell in my house and broke the upper part of my right arm. My daughter and grandson live with me and I tripped over one of his small cars in the dark. This was 5 yrs ago when I was 63. I could not get up because my arm hurt so bad, so we call and ambulance and off to the emergency room I went. I do not remember much of the time I spent in the emergency room due to pain meds they gave me. The next thing I remembered was waking up in a hospital room with my arm in a sling, bandages on my upper arm and an iv. The doctor came in and told me I had broken my arm in 5 places and they had to do surgery to put a splint in my arm to hold the pieces together. I vaguely remember waking up in ICU and my children gathered around me. It seems I had some kind of a heart issue. Then I remember waking up in a room again where I stayed. I was in the hospital for a total 8 days. When I went home, I had pain meds to take and was out of it for several more days. When I first started getting around, I could barely raise my arm. Now I can raise it about half way. My daughter puts my hair up for me every morning, but for the most part I am able to do most of the things I used to do unless it requires raising my right arm above my shoulder.

I've broken my bone only once, and it was my right arm, around 5 years ago. I was playing basketball with my friend and I simply slipped while running full speed with a ball. The problem was I landed on the ground with my hand being in a weird position, which resulted to actually breaking it. I remember my friend laughing, and just a moment later, realizing that I am actually seriously hurt. He called my dad, and us 3 went to the nearest hospital. The doctor sent me to scan my hand. When the scans came, it was obvious that my carpus is broken. He then grabbed my hand and said that i should clench my teeth because he is going to do something, oh god, that was so freaking painful. After that we were sent to the other room where they made a gypsum for my hand. I think it took me around a full month to completely recover.

The only broken bones I have had in my body, have been the fingers in my left hand. My story goes:
I was in my 5th grade gym glass playing kick ball in doors. I wore my Sisters shoes that day & knew they didn't have very good traction, but thought I would be ok. It was my turn to kick the ball, I got up to the home plate & kicked as hard as I could. I was pretty good at kick ball but, being that we were playing in doors that day I knew the ball would only go so far. So, I took off running to first base as soon as I kicked. I was running so fast, that I had to slow myself down to hit the base. As soon as I tried to stop I felt myself, I started sliding. I kept sliding until I hit the wall behind first base then bounced off the wall, and fell on my left hand. Right away I felt that my hand was hurting, and brought this to the attention of the gym teacher. My hand was already swollen, and very red at this point so he sent me to the office. The nurse looked at me gave me a bag of ice, and sent me back to gym class. The teacher looked at it again when I returned, and decided that I should sit the rest of the class out. I remember sitting there with my hand just throbbing. I finished out the rest of the day at school, and when I got home showed my Brother. He immediately knew something was wrong. He called my Mom at work, and said "I think her hand is broke". I remember thinking "It can't be broke, the teachers would have known". My Mom came home from work, and agreed with my Brother. I ended up having 3 broken fingers, and a highly upset Mother. I had to wear a cast for a couple months, that went up to my elbow.
Fast forward 10 years later. I was going through a green light at a 4way intersection, when an older lady pulled out in front of me. We ended up having a collision, and the same left hand hit the steering wheel. I knew right away that something was broke, because it felt the same way that it did years before. As soon as I looked at my hand, my thoughts were confirmed. I had a huge lump in the middle of my hand, just below my knuckles. The paramedics came, and started pushing on the huge lump asking "if that hurt". I squealed in pain, and the paramedic stated he "thinks there is something wrong with it". My Mom showed up at the crash scene, and immediately took me to the hospital. I ended up shattering my middle finger. That huge lump just below my knuckles, was the bone in my middle finger pushed back and shattered. I ended up having to have surgery to correct it, and had a metal rod and 3 screws put in. I am very lucky that I haven't broken any since then, and that was almost 20 years ago.

I also broke my ankle, both of them actually. Now, my story is kind of stupid. Both times, on separate occasions, I was going down some stairs and landed funny on my ankle. I felt a snap and a lot of pain, and that's it. A cast, rest for a month, and I was good as new. Mine are 99% healed too, they hurt sometimes when I'm wearing heels but that's pretty much it.

Ugh I feel like a wimp compared to the others cause I only broke my pinky toe.

The story goes when I was fifteen I was rushing to leave the room at the same time as my brother, and you know how it goes, two people trying to squeeze through a doorway meant for only one someone is bound to get hurt. Sadly that someone was me. My brother ended up falling except when he fell he fell against my pinky toe. Though my toe made a valiant effort to hold all of his weight, it failed. And broke.

At the time it hurt like crazy but when I told my mother she didn't believe it was broken. She thought it was just sprained cause I wasn't crying, went to the hospital, it was broken. Got a nifty little cast for it and everything.

I had two broke ribs from a very abusive relationship. Broke ribs are realy painful. There are nothing doctors can do for broke bones other than prescribe pain medicine.

Believe it or not, I've never had a single broken bone or sprain in my entire life. Contrary, to what I've just read in the previous posts, I heard that when one breaks a bone you don't feel anything. Like the pain isn't felt until much later. I heard that about gunshot wounds too but I was raised in a cave out in the middle of nowhere.

I broke my nose once. I was the goal keeper for my schools soccer team. One girl had the ball all the way down the field relatively unchallenged. She came right into the goal square to shoot for a goal and right as she went to kick, I jumped on the ball. Her knee met my nose and her knee won. There was blood all over my goalie gloves which didn't help to make me feel better, neither did the teacher trying to convince me it wasn't broken.
I'm pretty sure I was in the wrong jumping on the ball prematurely, but we won the match. I had surgery on my nose a few days later, plaster over it for a week and it was as good as new.

That would surely have hurt. Mine is similar to yours as I broke my right forearm (ulna) while playing soccer popularly called football in my country, Nigeria. I was involved in a tackle which led to my falling awkwardly and that was enough for me to get a fractured forearm.

I didn't visit a hospital as the treatment was more of a traditional approach otherwise known as native medicine in which the "doctor" used his bare hands in feeling the fracture and pushing (mind you the whole pushing was done without administering local anesthetic, so you can imagine the intense pain) the fractured bones in close proximity to aid quick healing thereafter vertically knitted sticks were tied to the location to serve as support for the healing bones.

Unlike you, I didn't even remember the score or anything that has to do with that particular football match. Lol

The other time I broke my left forearm was during break period. I was in form five. My friends and I were involved in some form of childhood karate (I guess watching too much of Jet Li and Jackie Chan led to this) and I fell awkward once again fracturing my left forearm. Thanks goodness: I was right handed because I couldn't imagine having to learn write my left hand as we were still in session about to sit for an exam.

The only bone I've ever broken was my left arm when I was nine years old. I was roller-blading down our nearby sidewalk that had a bit of an incline, so it was possible to pick up some speed. Essentially, I was a dumb little daredevil and took a bad spill near our driveway. The pain was the worst I'd ever felt in my life, so much that my memories of what happened right after are a bit fuzzy. I remember screaming so much and so loudly that the neighbors probably thought a kid was being murdered, and I remember my mother and her live-in boyfriend screaming and arguing with each other (not an uncommon occurrence) before one of them wrapped my broken arm in a dish towel filled with ice. Then they took me to the ER, where we spent at least six hours. My mother continued to have hysterics, so much that the nurses had to remove her from the room while the bones were being set. By that time, the doctor had pumped me full of so much morphine through my I.V. that I was flying higher than planet Venus and didn't feel or care about a thing. The whole thing sounds a bit Jerry Springer, I know, but such was life growing up for me. I was used to it.

I would suggest knocking on wood right now! The first bone I ever broke was my in my neck and it was about a week after bragging that I had never broken a bone before.

I can attest to the fact that, in some cases, you do not feel that you have broken anything immediately. My break was from flipping a car and I was so hyped up on adrenaline that I was pacing back and forth on the side of the road. The paramedic had to force me to sit down. Two hours later, extreme agony set in.

Fortunately I have never broken a single bone in my body, but I've suffered from another bone related condition.

A few years ago I went to work in Alaska, where there is hardly any sun after the end of August. In the middle of October I started getting diffuse bone pains in my legs and ribs, whenever there was pressure applied to them. After that my knees began hurting when I would walk for longer than ten minutes. I got very worried, I even thought I had bone cancer spreading throughout my body. It was getting progressively worse and I eventually reached the point when I could't work anymore.

I went back to my home country and rushed to the hospital. The blood tests revealed I had developed vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin and there was no sun Alaska. Your body produces the vitamin when your skin is exposed to the sun's rays. Vitamin D stimulates calcium absorption in the gut. Without vitamin D calcium doesn't enter your body, it only gets out of it when you pee.

I immediately took some vitamin D tablets and only after a few hours I started getting a relief. Three days later I was as good as new! Thank God for that! No more Alaska for me, I guess. :)

Yes, I had a broken bone on my right shoulder. When I was a kid, me and my friend are playing together in my grandfather's farm. We ran together around the place. We want to know to each other who is faster. Then while we're running up to the mountain I suddenly slipped and rolled down to the mountain's feet. After that, I felt my shoulder it's hurts and very painful! I could cry out loud! It was horrible back then. It takes me more than two weeks to recover. But now my right shoulder got healed and that incident happened maybe nine years ago or so. That's my story.

I broke my right arm 8 years ago. I was riding my bicycle on the sidewalk when I noticed something small, probably a worm. I tried to run it over. But I slipped and fell from the sidewalk onto the road. I was knocked out and the next thing I remember I was in the emergency room with my mom. Unfortunately, it took a long while and a lot of pills to heal.

To this day I haven’t figured out what that mysterious object was.

I broke my left wrist more than 10 years ago. Back then I was playing handball and it happened during a match. I was going to shoot when one player of the opponent's team pushed me in the back and I fell over and landed on my hand. Needless to say, it hurt like hell, but fortunately that was the first and the last time I broke any of my bones.

I was working construction in my early 20's. But I didn't hurt myself at work. I was riding my bike home from the job site. And I had put my solid plastic Igloo cooler hand over the handlebar. The road was kind of rocky, so the top of the cooler popped off and in a split second wedge between the frame of the bike and my front tire. The bike went completely sideways and took out my legs. And the coworker that lived near me who was riding near me said I hit the road with my head, bounced, and when I came down again my body weight came down on my collarbone. I blacked out for a few seconds between hitting the street and landing on my collarbone. Went to the ER after I got a ride home from a passing truck while my buddy held my arm still. The ER determined I had fractured my collarbone and gave me a cloth sling and discharged me. I don't think they believed I hurt myself riding home on a bike when my lunchbox came apart because I wasn't 13. I looked really banged up, so they probably thought I was a druggie who got in a fight. But there you go!

I only broke my little finger on my left arm. It was terrible. My brother and I were playing and we started a pillow fight. In one moment he hits me in the hand and my hand hits the wall. I looked at my hand and in one minute my finger turned blue and swollen. I started laughing because it was funny how I hit the wall but after 15 minutes pain started to be really bad. I went to ER hoping it was not broken but guess what it was. Everybody laughed at me for breaking my finger with a pillow.

Years apart, I have broken the bone just below my right shoulder and the littlest toe on my right foot. I was eight when I broke the bone below my shoulder. I was horseback riding on a younger mare, who was extremely excitable. A horse galloping across the back pasture spooked her, and she started bucking. I wasn't a good enough rider yet to stay on her back, so I wound up flying into the wooden wall of the arena. The impact was hard enough that I landed quite a few yards away, almost in the middle of the fairly large arena. Looking back, the funniest thing is that my parents didn't believe that I had seriously injured any part of my body even though they were watching the entire thing happen from the edge of the arena.

When I broke my toe, I was sixteen. I was walking from my bedroom into my bathroom, and I caught my little toe on the corner of the doorframe. The pain was honestly way worse than for my shoulder. I collapsed to the bathroom floor, and after a while, I felt my toe to see what had happened. I was easily able to tell that I'd broken the bone as the front part of my toe would bend upwards without moving the rest of the toe. I never went to the doctor, and I still can't walk without having that toe buddy taped to the toe next to it.

Me, personally, have never broken any of my bones. But my ex boyfriend fractured my nose. He was very mentally abusive and toxic. He chose another woman over me yet again and he was leaving me yet again. I went to follow him through the kitchen because I just wanted to talk to him for 5 minutes without her being on the phone. As I was following him, he threw his head back and cracked me in my nose. Blood went everywhere. There were numerous physical counters that night but none of them resulted in anymore broken bones. I thank God every day that he granted me the strength to finally get away from that after 5 years.
