I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I feel like I try to make a contribution.

Any advice that will help me improve my ratings is appreciated. Thank you.

You have a 4.3 rating which means you're already doing a great job.

Thank you for saying that. It's always nice to hear, but one of my ratings is a 4.o. I think (hope) I can improve upon that. I'm just not sure what I need to do differently on that forum to improve.

Longer posts would definitely help. Some of your posts on that forum were a little short.

I don't know what you are doing in the forums you are subscribed to, but I have looked over the post you have done here. You have very good grammar skills and your spelling is on key. Longer more in depth post would help as @KenBrace stated, but also try including external examples such as quotes, links to articles, and images that support your ideas. Think of yourself as a reporter reporting on an event or story. Try not to do to many opinion post or thread, do informative with an opinion post or thread. I would give more advice, but like I said... all I have seen is what you have done here.

    Hope that helps.

Okay, then, thanks. I was just trying to fit in. There are entire threads on that forum that are filled with one-two word responses, so I felt like writing paragraphs would feel out of place. If that is what is required though, that is what I will do.

Please take this in the spirit it is intended, because I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just going to be straightforward. What you are describing is an article, not a forum post.

If you really expect full blown articles, research, media... for a nickel, I think you need to make that clear before people sign up.

I completely understand where you're coming from, and I fully agree with you that 5 cents for an article is unreasonable, but I don't think that's what was intended. I think, ultimately, the point is that we are making forum posts - not Facebook comments or tweets. There should be some juice in what you're writing, some type of anecdote that you can add to the discussion. It doesn't have to be a full-fledged 500-word article with a works cited page, but at least something meaningful that contributes to the conversation.

Sure, I agree with that. My main goal when posting is to get/keep people talking, by either adding to the conversation or starting a conversation. I do add outside stuff sometimes, if I happen to come across something (not sure I have done so here yet, since I haven't been here long).

I'm certain that not every single one of my posts is "meaningful," since I do occasionally just get caught up in the fun. For the most part though, I do try to make a contribution.

Thanks for the response. That helps.

You miss understood the intent for certain. The post I make are on average approximately 5 to 10 sentences and a quote and link to an article. That is not an article but a short summary and a brief opinion as I described before.

Here is an example. This is a thread I did for Disaster.com

As you can see it is no where near a article. It is a brief summary of what I had read with a link to the article. Nothing more.

There are three primary things that a writer should focus on while writing.
    1. Good grammar and spelling.
    2. Invoking discussion.
    3. Good post length.
That's pretty much what most forum owners want. If you can fulfill this job, then you will get good ratings. However, you shouldn't expect a 5.0 rating for simply doing a good job. A 5.0 rating means that you did an exceptional job. It means that you created extremely high quality content. This is not expected by any means. Think of a 4.0 rating as the standard. Anything above that is a bonus.

BTW the post of yours that I just quoted would be the considered a good post length. Like Kim pointed out, you aren't expected to writer articles but you are expected to do more than you would in a tweet or fb post. The post above would be worthy of a 4.3 or 4.4 rating. Somewhere around that area.

Consitency is also another thing to keep in mind. Consistent, quality posts will really help your rating.

I have also found that many forum owners appreciate it when you interact with other posters and not just the thread starter. That means quoting others and replying to other opinions. On the other hand, repeating information that has already been said is frowned upon, I think.

    Just my two cents.

Make your post interesting and very much acceptable for everyone as you need more readers to get more ratings right? So, be positive, little bit humorous and be friendly which helps to reach readers and they really think that you deserve to be liked and rate you more.

Here are the three most important things to focus on.
    1. Good English. You need to have good grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. if you want to get good ratings (or even be approved in the first place). Ideally English should be your mother tongue.
    2. User interaction. It is very important to ask questions, quote posts, converse, and stir discussion. This is one thing that forum owners really want. Don't just make generalized posts that aren't genuinely interacting with the community.
    3. Post length. If you make a bunch of short posts then the forum owners will feel like you're ripping them off (because you are). It's generally a good idea to make at least 3 lines of content per post.
BTW 3 lines of content doesn't mean this.

    Sentence one.
    Sentence two.
    Sentence three.

    It means this...

I'm just looking around, have no idea what a rating is for. But I hope I can start earning good money here. It's kind of frustrating to have joined so many writing sites and only one site had paid me. I hope FW is a good one.

Just approved your account this morning. You did a great job. You should be able to start making money now. :)

The higher your rating, the more you get paid and the more subscription options you have.

This is very important and will help you get respected by other forum owners. It's also key to ask other posters questions that way, you can increase the activity on all the topics that you decide to post on. I have some free time on my hands now, so I'm going to try my best to become a writer as well because I'm in 100% support of this posting service and I want to see it expand with more forums in the near future. Being unique is the best thing to do and if you can't provide quality/unique content, then don't even respond to the topic.
