It really depends on what you're planning to do with your own computer. If it's office work and browsing internet, just go for a mid/low tier laptop, it'll be silent, and will do everything you basically need. If you are always moving from place to place and you really need a computer or internet, laptop is your choice. Although, if you're planning to do much more, like playing video games, laptop won't really do the job as well as a desktop. Even if the laptop is pretty powerful, that'll mean it heats up way faster, thus the parts will be getting gradually worse.

It depends on what you need it for. I realized I need a desktop for a lot of at home jobs because laptops do not reach the speed needed. At least a cheap one. I also prefer typing on a desktop. The memory is great too on desktops. I also love my laptop. It is portable and I have good memory too. I also like playing games on a laptop so that I do not have to sit in one place too long. So for business or school I say desktop but for personal and gaming I say laptop.

I choose the laptop because it is light in weight, despite the fact that it can serve the same purpose as a desktop computer. The ability to be moved around makes also makes it the best choice. It also does not need all those heavy back ups in case of power outages.

I personally prefer a desktop computer. A desktop just has a lot more power and flexibility than a laptop does. For a desktop you can install a lot more, run more programs at one time and it always has a better graphics card than a laptop. As mentioned in a previous post, if you are a gamer you definitley want to invest in a desktop. For flexibility, most desktops have the ability to be upgraded. This means they have slots available to upgrade your graphics card and add more memory. Most laptops have an integrated system, meaning that the graphics card is integrated with the rest of the hardware. Not all laptops are like this, but most of them are and have no option to upgrade. If I search for a laptop I always look at the specs on it to see if it has a separate graphics card. If you need portability and are using a computer for basic tasks then a laptop is the way to go. You can certainly use business programs like Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint on a laptop easily. If you travel for work and use your computer mainly for work it's more beneficial to get a laptop. If you want to use your computer for gaming, streaming video and digital design, you will get better performance from a desktop.

Laptop is very good for travelers or persons that usually move around. If you use your personal gadget to your office then better buy laptop. But i tell you this, if you want a better one then go for Desktop. Desktop is very much better comparing to laptops because a desktop are easy in customization comparing to laptops. Laptops are made of of microchips comparing to desktops. Desktop has wide system unit and the chips have distances creating a great ventilation so chips will not be burnt. You may say laptops has cooler though when it come to desktop, we have this inside fan or a better cooler. Long time usage of computer? I go for desktop.

The nature of my work requires that I travel a lot and at the same time still keep in touch with what goes on in and out of the office. The laptop comes in hand because of its convenience, mobility, and capacity. It does not take up space either, just place it on your lap and you are able to carry out all your tasks with ease. Attaching it to other devices like projectors even add more fun as I can watch a movie on a big 'screen' or play my favourite videos.

I definitely prefer a laptop. A laptop enables me to carry my work with me wherever I am on the go. I am able to also complete my school work, allow myself time to relax, and play games. Not only these aspects, but I also use my laptop to study for those big finals at the end of the semester at the library. A Desktop would only limit the areas you could take your device and also limit your productivity with the lack of transportation.

    Hello!
I use laptop as well as desktop, both on my table ...
I prefer desktop because they have less heating issues and is also easier to change parts when it malfunctioned. However, I understand that some people prefer to use only the laptop on the table, with mouse and all ... is because the laptop takes up less space and no need to use monitor.

I myself use both, Laptop and Desktop as per the convenience and type of the work. I find both the types equally important as both have some advantages and disadvantages over each other. I prefer Desktop for my official work which consist of mostly, Microsoft Excel files which are very comfortable for viewing and convenient while working with them. While I am travelling obviously, I have to use the Laptop. When there is sudden power failure Laptop comes handy as it has battery backup.

I prefer desktop computers. I am not particularly fond of typing on those tiny laptop keyboards. I also prefer using a mouse instead of a touch pad. Also desktops tend to have more computing power.

I prefer laptops. For years a desktop was essential for "real" computing, but now laptops have just as many features as any desktop. I currently have a 17" HP Pavilion touchscreen with 8 GB memory, a 1 TB hard drive, a gigabit Ethernet connection and a full-sized keyboard. I'm looking to go to a Dell 13" Inspiron with a 5th gen i7 CPU. There isn't much a desktop can do that beats the current generation of laptops.

Desktops are better for most reasons. Better cooling and you can update most of the hardware when
needed. Laptops are good for mobility, but they tend to overheat a lot and
they run on batteries, which die quickly.

I owned both a laptop and a desktop however it has been ages since I have logged unto my desktop. Sitting at a desktop has become too confining as I have to be in the same position for hours which usually leaves me suffering from terrible back pains. A laptop affords so much flexibility; I can lie with it on the floor, outside in the grass and I take it just about everywhere in my shoulder bag.

both of them is important and had its own use. About laptops, you can take them almost everywhere to access the internet and are durable. About desktops, most of us use it for gaming and to enjoy a big screen.

I personaly like more a desktop. Its more durable, and you can change parts more easily, and my job doesnt require me to have a laptop. But yes, for some people having a laptop over a desktop is much more viable because their jobs require that... In terms of GPU and CPU capability I think nowadays both laptop and desktops have the same performance (although you can buy a cheaper desktop with the same performance of a laptop). So the option to buy a desktop or a laptop is mostly related to: if you need a portable computer or not ;)

I was always used to favor laptops over desktops; however, that all changed when I bought a 27 inch imac. The benefits of having a huge screen are amazing. Yes, it is not portable, but it is great for having multiple windows up, watching videos, and playing games. I still love the ease of taking my laptop with me whenever I travel or just go to work, but when I am at home, my go-to computer is my desktop.

Laptop is better just because it's portable. You can take it any where with you unlike the desktop which remains stationary. I also like the fact that you don't have to use a mouse for your laptop.

Both is the best choice. Since i have two cats, one specially in love with new technologies. I can take laptop and hide from her. Cat prefers desktop keyboard for resting place. So i am better of with my laptop.

That is the perfect explanation. I think that the future is in portable devices. Desktop has its advantages, but i do prefer my laptop.
