Dial-up? What the heck is that? :D

Pretty much everyone moved on to high speed internet a long time ago. Even mentioning the word "dial-up" will result in everyone looking at you mentioned some urban legend.

However, there are still a good number of people still listen to that "err-eee-err-eer-psshhh..." sound when they go online.

I know one old couple that still uses it.

I had to use the internet while at their house once and it just about drove me up the wall. I've been spoiled by high speed internet.

Do you know of anyone that is still using dial-up?

It feels like dialup....we lived in No VA a few years back and had FIOS at a great speed, even in the rural town. Now in TN, we are lucky to get 4 and 1 DSL....of course it is dog slow after years of truly high speed access.

They still sell a lot of it here in Middle TN.

Of course I am old enough to have used an acoustic coupler and had high speed at 40 and 50 Baud....this was for newspapers to get their stories by phone in the mid to late 70's. We thought we were in tall cotton. OF course graphics were less than and greater signs...that was about it.

I have no patience for dial up. I have not had to endure it's snail slow speeds since I was in high school, but then again I work in a tech industry. I have actually been surprised by talking to people who still use dial up and pay the same and sometimes more than high speed. I'm not a heavy computer user anyway, I prefer to get on my phone to access the internet. It's always on me and a ton more convenient than busting out the laptop every time I need to use the web real quick.

I only used dial up when there were hardly any other options available. I always encountered problems with dial up because the site would crash and take too long to load up and I would at times forget what I was searching for. I only use cable Internet now and I can see a big difference in my computer's performance, which is a great asset because I work from home.

Questions like that I love to research, it reminds me of being back in school. Now base on a Google search I did says that approximately 3% of all Americans still have dial-up internet service. So I guess that would translate to millions worldwide. But lucky I haven’t found anyone in my area still using the service.

I don't know anyone that's still using it, but with Comcast internet, it sure seems like I am! I don't see a reason to use dialup anymore, for anyone, really. Regular high speed internet isn't that expensive, anyways.

Ah, good ole dial up. Nothing like hearing the sounds of Pterodactyl having a seizure as you log on to check your e-mail on your American Online 3.0.

Hey, the good news is that now if you use dial up, you won't have to worry about your mom or sister using the phone while you're browsing eBaum;'s world, since they'll be using their cell phone instead.

Though, these people still using dial-up probably don't have cell phones come to think of it. I digress.
