The world of education is changing. The day of just the text and the "sage on the stage" is at the least changing and at the most, fading away. What are your thoughts about this? have you taken any online courses? How did it go? Would you consider completing a degree in this manner?

I am in the middle of completing a master's degree in instructional design and technology and would be really interested in what you think about the topic.

No, I have never taken any online classes. For me, I don't know if I would ever consider taking online classes if I did happen to go back to school. I am not sure if that will happen since I graduated college almost two years ago. However, if I did consider going back, it would have to depend on the circumstances. If I felt like I was unable to travel to school because of work or being married, I would possibly consider it. I'm not married yet, so I want to make that a priority before I even think about going back to school. I need to be financially stable before getting married.

Plus, classes cost money. Unless my tuition would be fully, or even partially covered, I would more likely be willing to go for it. I heard that online classes are harder than classes in an actual classroom setting because the teachers are not there talking to you face-to-face. If the school was close by, I would try to accommodate my schedule. This way I could make time to take classes in a classroom setting.

Everyone is different, so it depends on what works for you. If you feel more comfortable taking online classes and the course allows you to, go for it. If you feel like you get more out of being in a classroom, go for it.

I took a health class in my senior year of high school, and I've taken a few classes to make getting my IT certifications easier (COPTIA A+, Network+, Linux+). Compared to classes I've attended in person, the amount of information available is only a fraction of what a conversation with a qualified professor can give you. The interfaces I've used were clunky, communication with the teacher/other students was extremely limited, and the overall experience was relatively frustrating.

An online learning environment does have a few positives, however. Firstly, you're allowed to learn at your own pace, so you don't have to waste time being held back by a less motivated class. Online classes also tend to be less rigorous than their physical counterparts.

I'd never consider getting a degree online. I'd also avoid taking classes I'm really interested in online. Anything you need credits for to fulfill a requirement, though... Go for it! It's less of a time commitment, and frees up space in your schedules to do something you live.

I'm currently enrolled in a computer science course online through my local community college. The interface we use it called Etudes. After taking this class for about half a semester now I can firmly say that I prefer live classes as opposed to online ones. There is a disconnect when you are learning online, and you really become dependent on your self to learn the materials. When you take a class on campus you learn in various ways. One major advantage to being on campus is direct interaction with your professor. I've always been an auditory learner, so it is to my benefit to hear a teacher speak directly on the curriculum.

I am currently enrolled in a course which teaches how to create good and valuable content . After Google Panda and Penguin updates , good content has become the king and will rule the net . So I opted for the course on Open2study last month and my instructor is the reknowned Frankie Madden . Now I am going through Module 2 which teaches keyword research and to create content around it . One thing I can say is that I am enjoying it .I have downloaded the video and replaying as and when I need. I have completed few assignments and my exams are approaching .But on one hand I am getting tips from world class teachers but , it would have been better if it happened live in front of me and I got a chance to interact .

I am unsure if this would really count as for what you mean, but I taught myself coding through Codeacademy. That website had tons of useful courses and resources that helped me start and become a real and semi-professional developer. Thanks to that site I have been able to learn Python, HTML/CSS (however, I knew most already), Javascript, and PHP.

However, I assume you probably more mean like online degrees or those new Nanodegrees that are becoming popular. I think it would be definitely interesting to try my hand at one of those.

I have been looking for free online courses. I'm interested in learning more about writing, website testing and speaking spanish. I did find Babbel.com, which teaches you a language for free, so I'm learning my spanish, finally! I found a whole bunch of free tutorials and webinars on writing, which I plan to look into. The website testing is a little to confusing for me right now, though.

I'm an Internet addict and most of my life, Entertainment, Education and work go online. I have taken courses from Udemy, EdX and Coursera and learned a lot from there. They are so interesting and present education in free, enjoyable and accessible manner. Most of the Courses I have taken include Cloud and Computer Science Courses. Microsoft Virtual Academy is also a good option which I chose. The best part is that you get certificates from World's Top Universities Online and that's the greatest part of the deal. :)
