I'm not a great sleeper and have had insomnia since I was a child, but as a human I need some sleep. I need at least 6 hours of good quality sleep, otherwise I am grumpy or I need a nap at some point in the day.

Sleep is necessary and if I can't sleep then I like to lie down and relax. Some people need more sleep, but I have never needed much and if I lie in it's because it's cold. Often I will stay in bed and surf on my laptop or read in bed for a while as it's more relaxing.

How many people get enough sleep or is society becoming sleep deprived with shift work, longer working hours and mobile phones bleeping at all hours?

My body will wake up naturally after 7-8 hours of solid sleep. I noticed that I have had bouts of mild insomnia until I would start exercising fairly intensely about an hour a day 4 days per week. I quit exercising for a while and I noticed I started having more hormonal and sleep disturbances again. I also eat a fairly healthy, whole grains, fruits and vegetable-filled, almost vegetarian diet. I am sure all that is a contributing factor to my enjoying a good nights sleep, but of all the facets combined, exercise has consistently been the greatest single contributor.

I also do not have to worry about work shifts, mobile phones and/or devices which may help as well.

It might also have something to do with the sunshine that you get while exercising.

A healthy dose of daily sunshine not only enriches your body with Vitamin D but supposedly helps with a good nights rest as well.

I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep each night. Sometimes I will feel refreshed after just 6 hours of sleep but other times I feel that I need at least 8 hours. If I get more too much sleep, I feel somewhat exhausted and I am not sure why. I think you need to have a good balance between getting enough rest and not too much or too little.

I used to believe that I needed no less than 7 hours of sleep in order to have a proper nights rest. After doing some research on this I found that 7/8 hours of sleep health wise is actually too much. The medical community suggests 5 hours of sleep is the perfect amount from a health perspective. Knowing this I have been striving for 5 hours of sleep per night for years.

I started using Meletonin, to help me get to sleep about a year ago. I now have to take it every night, and I usually get around 7 hours. However, if I don't take Meletonin an hour before I go to sleep, it's basically like having a giant cup of coffee. I can pull an all nighter and be fine the next day, however I'll need around 10 hours of sleep after that.

I try to get between 7-8 hours of sleep. I'm usually good about sleeping through the night, although I do have times where I'll toss and turn. Plus, there are times where I'll wake up in the middle of the night and it'll take an hour before I doze back off. Whenever I don't get enough sleep I usually take a nap during the day to get refreshed.

I don't know how many hours I need, but more than I'm getting! I'm not so sure about the five hour thing - I can't imagine going to bed at midnight and feeling refreshed at 5am, day in and day out. But I guess everyone is different and needs a different amount to feel their best.

I would feel the best on 8 hours I think. Less than that, and I just don't have the energy I should. With no opportunity for a nap during the day, I've got to make the most of that night time sleep. But I do kind of enjoy dropping off to sleep quickly when I go to bed - when I consistently get enough rest, I start finding it harder to fall asleep. Maybe that would be the indicator that it's time to start rising earlier in the morning.

Yes we must recognize that we can sleep very much or very little, each person needs five hours of sleep or 12 hours of sleep, such as a night shift with a program of 12 hours or more, can lead to sleep that has not stop. How I can say that the person has a problem, I do not like to be awakened by someone that bother me because I'll be nervous all day without anything fancy, but when I wake up call time and is else, just as they say everyone has their sleep, can sleep eight hours sleep was good, but if we do not have problems.

My average is 7.5 hours on weekdays and 9 hours on weekends. Though I've noticed a trend personally...

I tend to sleep 9-12 hours when I'm depressed and completely depleted out of energy from over-socializing or sports (I'm not too athletic). On the other hand, 6 hours is often enough when I feel happy and excited to start a new day, or ready to start a new activity or try out a new experience or something of the sorts. But afternoon 1-hour long naps are usually necessary in that case.

I usually tell myself I am fine on less than 8 hours, but I am pretty much lying to myself. Whenever I get less than 8 hours of sleep I feel groggy by like 4:00 PM the next day. I usually feel refreshed enough in the morning, but it all goes hill from there. I try to get 8 hours of sleep or more, but in the end my self control waivers and I do something stupid like staying up late and watching anime.

I am a college student so my sleep is inconsistent. Sleep is an essential part of our lives. Our bodies collapse with fatigue unless we sleep enough hours every day. Some people are like camels -- they can sleep very little for 6 days and then sleep for 24 hours on the last day, others need to have their sleep spread equally over all days of the week. It's also known that with age, our sleep patterns change. You don't need to complete the eight hours of sleep which mostly suggest because you can have a nap during the day. Six hours of sleep is just enough for me, but I do have an hour of sleep during the daytime or shorter if I have to do something important needed in the school.

8 at least, I can do 6-7 but only for about 2-3 days before I start feeling really tired. I'm amazed how some people can do only 4-5 and still feel normal.

It is recommended to have 8 hours of regular sleep but I feel its subjective of a person's age. Like, a child or an old man may need a longer sleep buy a young guy with high energy metabolism could do with 6 hours of sleep too.

I sleep at least 8 hours a day. I feel that this time is enough for my body, recharge your batteries to face the problems to the next day. Already managed to sleep 15 hours without a break, it happened after a great day's work.

I sleep for around eight hours every workday. In my opinion, six hours is surely a small period of time. I suggest you go to bed a little bit earlier, unless you feel totally fine with only six hours of sleep

I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night myself. Me getting that amount of sleep really depends on what time I go to sleep. Like most of you I'm sure, I have an internal clock. So no matter what time I go to sleep I am going to wake up by 8am. Even if my alarm isn't set. I usually am able to sleep throughout the night without any trouble. The only time I struggle is when I'm stressed out about something or anxious. I find when I work out a few hours before bed I sleep better.

The society is becoming sleep deprived. It seems like 24 hours a day is no longer enough to get everything you want to do done and also have some good sleep.

The truth is, even if we had additional hours to what we have right now, we will still find what to do with our time, other than sleeping. Like new deadlines, more tasks to accomplish and all that.

Personally, I sleep for like 4-5 hours a day which isn't healthy. But I try to make up for it over the weekends.
