I dropped out of college because I didn't have interest in what I was learning and I was paying tuition fees for it.
I wanted to learn something that interests me and will be lucrative. I was tired of theories and wanted something practical. I knew pretty much that there was enough free information out there on the internet for me on any technical and practical stuff I wanted to learn. There are free pdfs and multiple videos on youtube but a lot of people are telling that I really need to go back to college. I don't see a reason for this.

Man, this is hard. We need to know what college you were making. For example, I'm studying medicine, and there is no way to work with this if I dont go to the college. How will I operate if I don't have pratice?

I think that you probably work with TI/Design, and i think (My personal opinion) that you dont need a college degree to work in this, but it would certainly raise your budget. Companies are looking for degrees, not skills. That is sad.. but it's the true.

Leonardomps pointed out some interesting things. It depends a lot on what you want to do. If you want to be a lawyer, you must have a degree to work. If you want to be an engineer too. If you want to be an entrepreneur and have your own business, a college degree will probably be a waste of time. Many billionaires didn't go to college.

I wouldn't say it's necessary but it is necessary for you to get your certification. That's my view on it anyway. I'm studying computer science and what I am really doing is not what I am learning in school. I still go because at the end of the day it's not what you really know but it's what they think you know. If you can get around without certifications which many people have then I wouldn't advice you to go back but as I don't have those links in this world, I'll stick to it.

As @Leonardomps , @Marcelo Faria and @Belovedad have said, you need a degree for jobs that demand a degree in order to have a licence to practice.
However there is a number of jobs, mostly enteprise related, where as a freelancer you are your own boss. Such as starting a restaurant or a small business. You don't really need a degree to do those jobs but you do need to educate yourself about marketing and economical strategies to make that project into a viable business.
"Lucrative" is a very relative term, because these thing do not work like clockwork. For example, an amazing degree will not necessarily score you an equaly amazing job, and neither does anyone guarantee you that a startup business coming from zero experience will be any successful. Many billionares have started their life with trial-and-error and have dozens of failed and bankrupt previous attemps under their belt.
College will only give you some ground knowledge. What you do with it is up to you, and no one will take you by the hand to show you how theory is applied in practice, that is something you're supposed to find out and determine by yourself (or will learn in more advanced courses). First years of college are really dull that way.

I think college is important for certain jobs like doctors, lawyers, engineers, and other important jobs. But I wish it was okay in society to take a year off in between high school and college to figure out what you want. It should be required that you leave home, work, and figure out who you are without your parents telling you who you should be. I swear half the kids on Youtube and Tumblr complaining about paying for college because they got degrees based on either what they thought their parents wanted or some degree that they enjoyed with no thought if they could actually get a job afterwards. Then they get out of school with debt and no idea of how get a job with their degree. There needs to be a better system for colleges. I went to art school for an illustration degree and most of my classes I probably would have been better off doing in workshops except for like three of them, and I was a full time student. But I don't complain about my debt because I know what I plan to do with my skills. I don't get the feeling that the people complaining about student loans are the same way. They have degrees they don't know what to do with and that's the real problem. On some level, I think that trade schools should be pushed more in high school as equal to college because most of those actually have jobs after you finish with great pay and very little competition. At the end of the day, I think it's more important to know what you want to do with your life than to have a degree from a college. It's almost a cliche to have a degree you never use except to decorate your office wall.

I think you should get enrolled in some field at least on online courses, because free courses don't offer certification, which is very important to get a job. If you want to be an entrepreneur and do business it is not necessary to have a degree. But its not an easy task to start a business and achieve success right away, it takes time and effort and also requires money. So it is always a better option to have a college degree to be on a safe side.

When it comes to going to college, I believe that it depends on what job or career that you would like to go for. For example, if you want to become a doctor, you obviously have to go to college and medical school in order to do so. However, if you started working at a job that did not require a college degree, you may have a chance of moving up. This is only if you plan on staying there, and if you can make good money without a college degree. You can become a manager working in a retail job you started working in as a teenager, and by working there for a few years. Managers tend to make decent money, so if you go for it, you don't have to worry about going to college to get a decent paying job.

College education does not guarantee a $30K job straight out of college for everyone anymore. Today, you're lucky if that happens. Jobs today are hard to get without experience, so people go for jobs that do not require experience and provide on-the-job training. I'm a college graduate, and I never had a $30K job, but I am working. What it comes down to is that you have to do what's best for yourself. Strive to make a decent living because it is possible whether you have a college education or not.

I find the teachings in college are often disconnected from real world situation. Yes, It's essential to get the certification if you want to be a doctor, engineer, etc, but other than that, being a undergrad graduate doesn't guarantee a successful life. It's more about ability, and if you have the ability to get a degree, but decided to make a conscious choice to drop out, and you are confident in yourself, then I think that's OK. If you just want to be educated, you can watch free lectures video recordings from some of the top colleges in the world, including MIT and Stanford. Nonetheless, college is a good place for training your discipline, vigor, and is also a good place to meet new people.

Attending college is only as important as your major. If you want to be a doctor then college is essential. However, if you interest does not require a college degree, I wouldn't do it. It is important to go to college with a purpose. My oldest son is a DJ. He decided not to go to college, and he is doing well. He has other goals as well, which doesn't require a college degree. I think he made the right choice. It is important to know what you want. He knew he didn't want to be in debt and sitting in a classroom, in a subject that was unrelated to his interest. If it is going to help you financially then go for it. It would also be a benefit if you will be able to pay off your loans when it is all said and done.

I think going to college is your choice. I believe that there are many ways to learn new things. Some people learn things from going to class, and some learn from their life experiences. Do what you feel in your heart. Remember that you can always go back to school, if you change your mind.

This is a tough question. I am torn between both. I was brought up with college being the necessity to higher pay, however that isn't true at all. I watched my husband struggle to find a job that for his degree. Every job he applied for he was over qualified or under qualified because he lacked experience in his field. To me I think that if you go to college, then the college should help you find a way to get experience. Now a days it seems that if you have a degree with no experience there is no job or experience with no degree you get paid poorly.

First of all, college is not for everyone. I believe that you should take a moment to figure out you want to do with your life. If college is a requirement for your future aspiration(s), then dear sir, suck it up and sign up. If not, maybe technical school might be the route for you, and again, this depends on what you want to do. It you have a service or product you wish to market and you want to start your own business, I would suggest taking a couple of business/employment law classes to enhance your knowledge. I don't believe you should go to college, rack up a lot of debt and contend with courses and timelines when it is something you may not way to do. I suggest that you invest your time and resources working toward something you truly enjoy and can make a living with. BoWaddy, I wish you all the best.
