I have a few tattoos. I want a few more. To, me tattoos are a great way to express yourself and show the world what is meaningful to you. I have seen many gorgeous tattoos that simply could not have been created had the tattooist not been artistic. Do you consider tattoos a form of art?

Yes i do consider tatoos as art because it is a way to express many things and emotions and that is what art is all about.Whatever is inked onto your body is art.The colours used also make it art.

Yes, but art is subjective. The same tattoo that comes across as tacky to a group of people will come across as edgy to another. Just like an art piece, tattoos need to be taken seriously, planned well and will receive different critiques.

I like the idea that tattoos are an expression of the creator and the person who feel can relate to them to choose them for their body. I think it is pretty cool when a person tries to create a tattoo from scratch deciding each element.

In general I enjoy hearing people explanations of each one, some are very insightful some tattoos are a reflection of what they feel defined, others are a way to keep a memory and others for lessons learned that they want to keep in mind every day.

I am not attracted to tattoo my own body but there are some pretty cool designs that take advantage of being on skin to create illusions. I remember I saw not along a video of a tattoo that make it look someone had the Master Sword at parts under the skins. I guess I am more attracted to temporary make up I can remove painlessly.

I don't see how tattoos could be considered anything else, honestly! They are designs and/or paintings in ink, where the canvas just happens to be on someone's skin. It still took an artist (a tattoo artist) to make it, it still took dedication and usually has a deeper meaning behind it.

Yes they can be a form of art if the tattoo artist is creating their own designs for their customers. Or customers are creating their own designs to be used. However, a lot of tattoos are run of the mill and certainly not what I would call 'art'. "Name + Name Forever" or some Kanji that means a particular word is not art.

I do, art is just expression in pure form and it can be on any canvas.

Hi there Ladyferoz, I agree that art is subjective, but the mechanics of creating something from your own perspective is considered a creative piece, which to you is art. A tattoo is an expression of some feeling, idea, or mood that someone has and they want to put it paper and then on someone's skin as a piece of art.

Tattoos I feel are a true representation of the world around us and how we view it. All art is subjective, what I see as awe inspiring may seem like junk to someone else, but regardless of our likes or dislikes, a tattoo is a creation and therefore art.

Oh definitely, Tattoos are art! There are so many talented tattoo artists out there, who can create the best images imaginable. A tattoo is for life and if it's not done with artistry then I guess there's no point in having one done.

I think that Tattoos are consider as a form of art.I mean that is the only thing that they are considered in my opinion.I am not a fan of Tattoos because you make a decision that you might regret for the rest of your life because tattoos are for life and I know there are places that you can get rid of tattoos but I have read that it is painful. So i would tell people that like to get a tattoo think again before getting one.

I do consider it as a form of art because it is a way of expressing the talent of the artist and I feel like it as a form of identity for ourselves. I don't have any tattoos now but in the future, I will have one which expresses my feelings through that art.

I feel like tattoos are a form of art and our bodies are the canvas. Art comes in many forms. I have 8 tattoos and I plan to get many more. I love to express my artistic side. I was told that it was a sin to have tattoos because your body is a temple, my response to that is "I choose to decorate my temple with art." Some people like black and white and some people like color but it is all art.

I agree with you Amy. I've never understood why people think getting a tattoo is bad or a sin. I do not have tattoos on my body because it is not my thing, but I think it’s just another way of expression. I respect the people who don't like tattoos, but I cannot understand why some of them oppose so strongly to them. I don’t see the difference between them and a drawing made in a piece of paper, or a painting in a museum; all of them require time and effort.

I think art is everything that is created to express an idea, a feeling, an event, etc. So tattoos are definitely art.

I do think that tattoos are a form of art. The person doing the artwork is drawing different things, adding color, and the work has to be precise. Not just anyone can do this it takes a very skilled person to create such artwork. People express themselves through tattoos and they have many different meanings.

I think it is a matter of perspective. I choose to think it is art that I have framed on my body. My art goes wherever I go. Other people choose to frame their art and put it on the wall. Other people just don't care about art. Art is an expression of oneself and if you choose to express yourself then you have art all around you. Some people would choose not to express themselves. This is just my opinion of course.

Yes, tattoos are definitely a form of art, and also a means to express oneself. It is rather a misconception that tattoos are some kind of marking or branding that we place on our bodies, and should thus not be so frowned upon. It should rather be seen as something similar to a scar, or a reminder of a time in our life to look back on. When we get a tattoo, it is also symbolic of what we felt at the time, and is thus earns its worth of being on our body - if that was something we felt strongly about at the time. I have a tattoo on my leg, and arm, and also on my back. Each tattoo is unique in its own way, and also a reminder of our personality, which canshow you to yourself when you struggle to see it. Tattoos can easily become part of who we are, or where we have been in our lives...perhaps even to make a statement of our beliefs or values. It is also the pain of getting a tattoo, which makes it almost traditional to have it as part of our overall image. Getting a tattoo has further shown me what it's like to cross the borders of conformity, because once you have a tattoo, you can never go back. Be prepared to receive controversial ( good and bad) comments and questions from people!

I absolutely believe that tattoos are an art form, and just like all other art forms, not everyone will agree with your reasons for liking a certain piece of art or for getting it. I personally have very sentimental reasons for all of the tattoos that I want/have, but that doesn't mean that someone who only gets tattoos because they look nice is wrong. They simply have a different vision for the canvas that is their body than I do. I've known people with tattoos all my life, and most of them I can't imagine without tattoos. They become part of who you are, a sort of visual guide through the journey of your life, and even if some of the tattoos you get are ones you regret later, or you come to think of as stupid or rash, that's indicative of where you were in your life at that point, and to me that's the most beautiful representation of the flaws of being human.

Tattoos are definitely a form of art. People express themselves through their tattoos. Most of them have some sentimental value to the bearer.
