Remember all those ads about playing 60 minutes outside every day, did you do that as a Kid? Do you still do that now? How important is it really to be outside and exercise? Is it okay to just do your exercise at home? or at the gym?

I guess it's each to their own and what people like. There's no point in jogging for miles if you don't like it, where a more relaxing steady hike could be more pleasing, give a new experience of the outdoors. Hiking is a cheap form of entertainment and exercise, and it's good for endurance, definitely providing more time outside than the 60 minutes you mentioned. The gym is one thing, I've been to gyms in the past to, but I think it's better to go with a friend, otherwise it's easy to lapse. All this said, poor health, poor mobility can prevent such activities, and then a 5-10 minute walk can be good. It isn't about ideals in my view, it's down to both personal taste and personal ability and circumstances with health.

I agree with the person who posted above in that you have to do what's right for you. But I also believe that getting outside is important. It's refreshing and the peace of nature can be beneficial to your mind/body/soul.
I don't think I played outside everyday as a child. I could use to get out more these days. It's definitely a goal to work on.

Agreed. There's nothing like nature, as in the real outdoors, not just walking around or running the streets where you live. It brings back that exploring nature we all had as kids.

Whether you exercise indoors or out is not a big issue as far as I am concerned just as long as you get your exercise in. However I suppose there are advantages to exercising outdoors. Getting fresh air in the lungs is always a good thing and just being outdoors breaks the monotony of exercising in the house all the time.

An hour of any form of exercise or recreation is what the doctor ordered. Just ask them! I'm sure they will agree that it's plenty to lift your spirits and get fit and healthy. An hour of exercise seems like a long time on it's own but in 24 hour day it is actually quite minuscule.

I noticed that children don't go outside as much anymore. When me and my children were growing up, we played a lot and our playtime was very creative. It makes me very happy to know that my daughter and grand daughter go on walks and mountain climbing on a regular basis. As for me, my favorite outdoor activity is walking and swimming. Otherwise, I'll go to the gym.
