I think that documentaries are an excellent way to learning. I have learned alot by watching various documentaries. However, you have to be careful some documentary workers have slanted agendas. So sometimes you may want to do some of your own research

Butterfly1, I also love watching documentaries because I learn so much from them. The documentaries that I love the most are about diet, health, and fitness. I relate to these types of documentaries because of my own experiences with taking care of my health. I lost weight years ago, and I am still learning a lot about these things. When it comes to movies, I feel like I learn a lot from the ones about relationships between, partners, friends, and families. I believe that these movies teach us about what can cause any kinds of relationships to go wrong. For example, a girl under 18 years old gets pregnant by a guy who is 18 years old or older. The girl's parents find out, and attempt to call the cops because they tell her that what he did to her was statutory rape. That means sexual relations between someone who is not a minor and someone who is a minor. This is because a minor is still a child and the one who is not a minor is an adult. The young man could get arrested for having sex with a girl who is still considered a child. This teaches people to avoid having sexual relations in this type of relationship. Its just like the health documentaries. They teach us about what foods are healthy, and which ones are not. They also teach us health problems that are involved with an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and poor hygiene. These are my takes on documentaries and movies being educational to people.

Well you can learn things in movies. Some movies have education features to the film. As long as they are accurate you can learn a great deal from a movie.

Yes, watching documentaries can increase your intelligence and knowledge of the world. I have watched a couple of documentaries myself and they are certainly quite educational.

However, not all movies are educational. Yes, some movies can teach you about many things, but this is not always the case. Many movies are not historically accurate or use incorrect facts.

Other movies are simply not educational at all, such as action movies, horror movies, etc. Said types of movies are merely recreational and are meant to be only a form of entertainment; they are not there to educate you.

I do feel that watching movies provoke thought and can increase the imagination. But, like everything else on the television, movies can also brainwash a person into thinking everything is just a big fairly tale when indeed much of what is put in movies has a lot of hidden truths inside them. So yes, on one end, movies can make you more aware of what just might be real if you've done any research about this lovely planet we live on, the cosmos, and the other beings that really exist inside the inner earth and on other planets. Like that movie Symmetry that has not been shown here in the United States but has premiered in Amsterdam and Geneva already about that CERN Large Hadron Collider. They are telling us what is really going on through movies and not the actually news to make the masses think everything is fake.

I do feel some movies are a tool used to ingrain an agenda upon the masses by the means of using image suggestion which subconsciously programs a person with thoughts and ideas that weren't originally their's to begin with. Take all the homosexual innuendos in many of these movies and look at the homosexual increase in todays society. So yes, movies do educate and miseduacte people.

Well the obvious answer is it all depends on what you watch. In your case then documentaries can certainly help somebody become smarter. It's always good to find new facts out, even if you have no interest in the subject, then knowing a bit about it can often lead to you forming an interest and wanting to know more.

That depends on the movie you decide to watch. Seeing films like Fast and Furious or something else which mostly consist of mindless action most likely won't make you any smarter. Movies with a deep meaning and movies which make you think about life could possibly make you smarter. In my opinion pretty much anything what makes you move your brain tends to you more intelligent.

Yes, in some ways, I do believe it does. It still depends on how you process everything you get from the movies you watch but more often than not, I think each movie I watch had taught me or made me realize things I have not thought of before watching it. Which is also why I prefer movies that are controversial or contentious that gets you to open your eyes and have moments of self-reflection.
