I think with our latest technology it's possible because now anyone can upload news on youtube or other media, news can be posted on forum and other social media.

Yes indeed, it is very possible to live without a TV. And I can proof that because its now the second month I am living without a TV and my life is so normal; I usually check stuff on the Internet and get update on news with the breaking news subscription I have on my phone and life goes on.

Yes it is possible these are Ten Alternatives to Television
If you take a one week challenge to turn off the television, several things will happen, chief among them boredom and a sense of having a ton of “empty” time. Here are ten things to do to fill that time.

    Start an exercise plan.
If you didn’t watch Mad Money every night at six o’clock, you might be able to spend that hour walking around the block, doing leg lifts, or doing an aerobic workout. Most exercise routines cost nothing, though it can be more fun if you do something like a DDR exercise regimen (something I’d love to write about, but I can’t really conceive of how it fits on The Simple Dollar).

    Prepare meals.
Learn how to cook at home. Prepare some interesting meals. Get a good cook book and dig in.

Read a book you’ve always wanted to read.
Read something to educate your mind and your spirit.

    Start a second business.
I keep this blog running on less time than I used to spend watching television each night and it is earning some money. I also started a computer consulting business, where I fix people’s computers locally. This has opened up two solid revenue streams for me that, added together, approximate what I made from my job before. This has made me feel much less stressed about work – I do my job, but it no longer has the paralyzing “Oh my God what if they downsize?” fear that it used to have.

    Be social.
Have healthy, focused conversations with your immediate family. Patch up bruised relationships and friendships. Go out to community events and meet people. Find a group connected to the things you’re interested in and get involved (like a book club).

    Take an evening class.
Most universities offer degree programs towards a master’s degree (or higher) in the evenings. See what’s available and get into such a program. It will fill your evenings with food for thought and put you on a much stronger career path.

Learn a new skill or a new hobby.
When my great grandfather died, my great grandmother spent her evenings learning how to paint, something she’d always wanted to learn how to do. She had a ton of natural skill, and as she learned the craft, it began to show. It was something that her married life and television watching had never left time for before.

    Take on a major project.
Do something huge that you’ve always wanted to do. I’ve done things like made a homemade bullwhip, learned how to speak Mandarin, and so on, just in my newfound spare time.

    Get things done.
When I finally turned off the television and looked around, I saw literally hundreds of little things that needed to be done that I simply hadn’t done. So I started getting them done; I literally spent three days making a giant checklist of every task that would take longer than five minutes, then I just started going through them. I felt soproductive while doing this that it was a huge endorphin rush just by itself.

Take care of whatever bothers you.
For me, it was taking a little bit of time each day to meditate and get in touch with my spiritual side, and it made a huge difference in my life.

In short, by cutting out television, you can not only directly save money, but live a much more rich and fulfilling life.

So possible. In the past 7 years or so, I can categorically say I have spent less than 5% of my time at the front of a TV set. Why was it possible? I believe it is because I replaced it with a better alternative that aligns well with my personality. My laptop was a better alternative since it affords me the opportunity to do what I really love doing. From reading my favorite book genre (philosophy) to researching new terrain.

Of course! there are Radio or Podcasts, Magazines, and Books for a replacement. Plus, TV is not something you can eat so it's not necessary for living.

It's very possible! Believe it or not, I haven't watched tv for about 2-3 weeks now! It's very unhealthy and addictive in my opinion. There are a million and one things that we can do besides watch tv. We can read books, play outside, go to an arcade, go for a walk, meditate, or even just stargaze! Tv is nothing but a brainwashing gadget!

I think it is possible. A lot of people actually do that, Ed Sheeran lives without any electrical devices, so yes.

Oh, absolutely. I have a TV, but I only use it to hook it up to my computer so I can play video games with my girlfriend. The whole format is too ancient for today's world and while I don't believe the type of content that can be found on TV screens (like shows or movies) will go away, I do believe there will be a shift to modern ways of watching it (like Netflix or Hulu).

A TV is not necessary for anyone to live a happy and productive life.

When I was around eleven years old, we moved upcountry where there wasn't any electricity. This therefore meant that we had to sacrifice the pleasure of watching our favorite shows on TV. I must say the first few weeks were the worst of my life but after getting to know my new friends, everything got a lot better.

I started to go hunting for rabbits, fish in the nearby lake and going to visit my grandparents who lived nearby. It was really fun and within no time I had forgotten that we had no TV.

I don't have a TV, but I use my PC to watch series and videos, listen to music, and browse the internet. Since you don't have a computer, doing away with your TV might create more of a void in respect of entertainment, which makes it a more drastic but also more interesting decision.

I would say do away with the TV. If you miss it too much after some time, get yourself a computer; it's a much more versatile and useful device. For instance, you can tether it to your phone and use your phone's internet access through your computer and therefore cut the Comcast.

I personally find that a lot of fancier websites don't work well with phone; and, if you need to do research on something or order a plane ticket or type a long email or something like that, it might be easier on the PC.

Yes it is. With the availability of the internet its now possible to access news, videos, music, games and other forms of entertainment without necessarily watching a TV
I personally do it once a day,in the morning, to catch up on some hard news, but mostly I spend most of time on my personal computer. Watching too much TV is not recommended anyways.

Yes,I can live without watching the television especially in this digital and internet era.

Most contents on the television are archaic especially with our local stations.

Personally,I learn more from the browsing the internet than watching the television.

Absolutely and of course it it--people did it for most of the history of our species. TV, if you look at human evolution over time, in general, is still a very NEW invention. I have gone without cable for a long time now--and the local library is a largely forgotten resource these days. Cultivate a home library, garden, write letters, keep a journal, exercise, go out and socialize. You do not need the television, and if you are worried about not getting your news or missing out on something, just consult your cell a few times a day.

Yes it is possible. I was brought up in a family with no TV and everything felt okay. A radio was just enough for updates.

Now I am an adult with my own place but still I don't own a TV. I find TV unnecessary. Just like Anonymux said in a previous post, internet has replaced TV in today's world. People can get all that is provided in a TV from internet( TV programes, advertisements, news, etc).

Generally speaking, couples who watch lots TV tend to argue more often, have less sex, lead unhealthy lifestyles, and are less satisfied with life in general.

Actually I can do without TV for a very long time. I can't remember the last time I settle down before TV to see a program. Of course that doesn't mean I have not been watching TV in all these time. If I go to the banking hall, an hotel or bar, basically any public centres I do watch TV programs at those places.
But left to me I don't fancy TV so as long as I have mobile phone and my pc. Actually the only thing I can't do without is internet.

I think it depends on the type of person you are, what stage you're in your life and who you're surrounded by. Not everyone could live without watching TV.

When I was a child, I was only allowed to watch one hour of TV in the evening before bedtime. I never felt that I was missing out on anything. Now however, I do watch a lot of TV during the day because I'm on maternity leave and I like to relax in front of the TV and enjoy doing nothing for a change.

After spending 12-13 hours a day at work, getting home late in the evenings and not having any time whatsoever to live, I really enjoy the fact that I can lean back and relax while watching Friends. When I'm too tired to read, I watch TV.

Would I be able to live without a TV? No, I wouldn't.

Yes , it is possible to live without TV. As there is lots of other things available for engaging ourselves. We are busy with computer or laptop for our daily work. Nowadays the most engaging device to get us hooked is mobile. It is the most compelling device we can not live without. We can get here lots of things like, news, games, movies, music, academic and social interests. Most of the things we used to do on our personal computer. But sometime, TV is required to watch certain useful things like news, movies. These type of things only enjoyable when we watch them on TV.

Yes, it is quite possible to live without TV. The reason I said this is, simply, that people before 1925 did not know what TV was at all. In 1925, John Braid invented the working television. However, before this time, none even knew what TV was, and in spite of that, they lived or survived well and, also, enjoyed their lives very well.
It must be well noted that TV is NOT a necessity in life. Even, nowadays, some people don't have TV for one reason or the other.
However, personally, I wouldn't want to live without TV because, it's my break after the usual work. Also, through TV I'm able to be current, knowing what's happening all around the globe.
