Many are the times my friends, colleagues and even family members have called me crazy for studying with headphones on.They say that it is impossible to concentrate when you are listening to music.I do not agree with this.I find the background music very soothing. It is not even about the music, sometimes its just noise.I find it impossible to understand anything I read from a book or even from the internet in a silent place. In fact, Charlie Puth's "Attention" is playing on my computer as I type right now.I find quiet environments disturbing.Does anyone agree with me? Who objects?

Studying while listening to your favorite music is just like reading a novel or a play or any other kind of written work in the library while chewing bubble gums, which actually does no harm to your concentration ability. Just tune on to your favorite song at a moderate volume then continue with the business. No big deal!

Yes, it is possible to study while listening to music. When I was studying at school this is one of my strategy to avoid bore while reading books. Listening to music while studying is really good. At first, I believe that this will disturb me but when I try it I became comportable to my studies.

This is where individuality come to play, not everyone is comfortable with listening to music while studying but I am always comfortable with especially if it a music that I can mime.

I believe that the answer is: it depends. According to a study sponsored by Spotify and the University of Caen, in France, to listen to instrumental music (without lyrics) while studying may increase concentration. In the first study, for example, students who studied mathematics listening to classical music had a 12% better concentration on their tests.

On the other hand, when studying listening to music with lyrics, the information received by our brains tends to diverge between what we are listening to and what we are studying, which may impair learning.

In short, it is up to you to do tests to study with music and without music and to discover which is the best option.

Yes, It is possible to study with music,I have a cousin who studies with loud music and a movie running. It could also be a mind set thing, if you believe you can study with loud music and still concentrate ,then it is possible. I myself find studying with soft music in the background .I find it good for my concentration and makes reading a little bit more enjoyable.

Yes,a calm & quiet environment is actually very disturbing, uncomfortable & too loud to me. I can only concentrate in my studies with my headphones on or in noisy environment. Am used to listening to my favourite songs while studying, thats the only time i can grasp everything.

However, not everybody is capable of studying while headphones on,most tend to be distracted & barely understand anything they read. Individual characters plays huge role.

I think it depends on the person. There are people that enjoys listening music while studying. It's really a good practice to study while listening to music because you won't get be easily destructed when you are studying in public surrounded by noisy people. But for me, listening music while studying doesn't work. I could not focus on what I'm studying when there is destruction like music. I prefer quite environment, so that I can get the most and really understand what I'm studying.

Yes it does. Learning styles are outdated already. Most educators adhere to multiple learning styles that the students are using to learn better. We thought that by concentrating on what we are reading or trying to learn would be effective enough for the transfer of knowledge. Contrary to that, combining it with other learning styles will further improve the tranfer of leraning. Like reading while listening to music. There are studies that suggested it even improves the learning process because certain music relaxes the brain that enable the tranfer of learning better.

I think it really depends on the person, but for me it does not work. I cannot study while listening to music. My love for music will win over the need to studying. Though i know how to multi task, but listening to music and studying is totally a different story. I need to focus and give my 100% attention when it comes to studying.

This is dependent with the individual. As for me it is pretty imposible becouse once the lyrics that i know comes up, i give up on studying and sing along the music. With me it is a no.

Listening to a calm music while studying really works for me. but I think it only depends on what music do you think that is calm for you. Just like me the music that can make me calm is the pop musics so I can still focus on what Iam studying while listening to my favorite pop song.

It is possible to study while listening to music especially cool music. This because cool music relaxes the mind and hence it improves your concentration. This also makes you study for a long period without fatigue and hence you are able to improve on your performance.

This behavior however it can be addictive and hence it can hinder you from studying if there is no music. Take for example you are in a place where there is no electrical power. It means you cannot listen to music and hence studying would be difficult.

Silence is Golden. According to me reading while listening to music greatly impairs comprehension, especially music with lyrics. Listening to music and studying at the same time puts you in a position where you have to process two different information and this automatically creates a conflict and this will definitely impair your performance of reading comprehension.

In school I found I could study better without music. I now work and cannot work with music on—and do a good job. If I am doing something that doesn’t require concentration, for instance, performing an electronic search for a word, which appears many times, that needs to be capitalized, I can have music playing. TV is a different story. I never work in front of a TV, but I can read on one end of the couch while my husband watches TV from the other.

Personally I don't think it's possible to do so. When reading a book and I suddenly hear music being played, my whole attention tends to shift to that music being played most of the time. In conclusion I don't thing it's possible because you can't serve two masters at a go.
