The first few seasons of TV series are usually good and very interesting. However, when the seasons go so far as in towards season six, seven, eight, the series begins to stray so far away from what it was originally based on and starts losing meaning. Consequently, the viewers begin to lose interest and with time they stop watching all together.

I think a TV series should go to about 5 or 6 seasons, after that I find it starts to get boring.

I think a TV series should go to no more than seven seasons because you don't want it to get to the point where you get bored of the characters, but on the other hand I think a TV series should have no less then 2 seasons, because you don't want people to feel like there should have been more or that the main topic was not fully covered.

If you get the perfect combination of not going to far from the original topic and not dragging the TV show out to long I find that next time the same company or producer makes a series people are more likely to watch it. Most of the time whenever I start a new series I will think about who is in it and what producer makes it.

I think maybe 6 seasons max MAYBE because there are some series that are really good at storytelling or it's easier for them to go longer when there's no direct plot. Once Upon a Time, for example, should have ended at its last season with Jennifer Morrison. That is definitely a show that doesn't need to keep going on.

It depends on the show. Some shows have the potential to run for quite a while, because the content is flexible enough to keep exploring new storylines and developing characters. With most shows however, the writers run out of ideas after a couple seasons and the show starts rapidly going downhill.

I feel a TV series should not go past 6-7 seasons. After this point, it often loses the original plot and most of the viewers' interest. There are a few exceptions to this such as series based on books or a classic comedy. Overall, once it goes a few seasons too many the show is 'worn-out' and no longer loved by viewers.

Length of a series I believe is determined by its genre. For example cartoon series like The Simpsons can last up to 20 seasons because their content is not limited to a certain story line.

Autobiographical TV shows such as The Genius which is based on Albert Einstein's life obviously cannot outlive it's main characters

In short what I am trying to say the longevity of a TV show depends on its genre, because the genre dictates where to set the boundaries of the show's story line.
