After listening to a song what makes you love it, is it the beat of the song. How well coordinated the beat is to the singers voice( especially Hip hop). Or is it the lyrics of the specific song and how it relates to the emotion in the singers voice( like in soft rock). What really captivates you in a song so that you don't press the forward button?

I know that most of the time we listen to a song because our favourite artist is either the main singer or is featured in it. But after listening to it sometime later you either love it or dislike it. If you love it what makes it so lovable, is it the beats or the lyrics.

While both are important and good vocals can really make or break a song, I'd have to say the beat is the most important part. An amazing instrumental solo can save a song with weak or shotty vocals, but very few voices are strong enough to over power a messy or nonsensical beat. When something is off about the background music it completely overpowers and ruins the vocals and distracts from the lyrics all together. Picture a strong guitar soloist like Santana, you could pair his skill with a song that's lacking in lyrics or vocal skill, and it would still be an absolutely amazing guitar solo. I do have certain artists that I prefer and am more inclined to listen to, but for me the soul of the song is in the meaning and the instrumentals. I've listened to and seriously enjoyed songs that had utterly ridiculous lyrics just because I loved the beat.

For me it depends with my mood. Beats when I'm feeling energetic and just want to dance and have fun. Lyrics when I'm just relaxing or when I'm feeling down and just want something to relate to so that I can make my day better.

It thinks it depends on the type of music. A beat is very important when it comes to rock and freestyle, while for a genre like the country music, people often listen to the wordings and find comfort in the tone. If observed, the background music is very subtle and is there to complement. Likewise, for rappers, the song is as much important as the beat, in fact, people tend to memorize the song and watch the lyrics time and again. For the genre like hip-hop (freestyle), pop, rock... beat is definitely important, some don't even care about the song, all they need is for their feeling and mood be sertisfied.

For me, I go for both. For upbeat music that you want to make yourself dance to, I go for the beat. Sometimes I don't care about what the lyrics is or if I even understand what the song means. As long as it makes me feel like dancing, I would enjoy listening to it. Songs that are mellower, I find it easy to like those with lyrics that I can relate to. It doesn't really necessarily mean that what the lyrics says already happened to me. It can be something that I can imagine happening not just to me but also with people around me. The lyrics are effective to make me feel what I should feel like I am in the situation.

Lyrics! I love finding songs that I can relate too! There is no better feeling in the world than when you find a song that describes exactly what you're going through! I rely heavily on music to get me through hard times, so I typically find myself listening to music that means something to me. While I still do enjoy music with a good beat, I will always prefer music with a good meaning.

It actually depends upon the situation when I'm happy I enjoy the beats but when I'm sad I do understand the lyrics.
