If Art represents the expression of one's feeling, mindset or just an expression of who an individual is, do you think it's fair to criticize one's artwork?

Criticism is part of our world. This is simply how it works, but it will not make it fair. Obviously, you're right, about everybody having their own feelings and mindset, but this also means that the critics have their own opinions and why shouldn't they be able to share it? At some point, you're the one who has to decide whether the criticism is useful or not. If it's not, then I think you should just ignore it and don't take it personally. Art is about joy, letting go and expressing yourself, there is not a single person who can take it away from you, except for yourself.

Technically, you are putting your art form out there for the world to consume and to judge so I wouldn't say it was unfair. I wouldn't expect you to buy a painting off of me and hang it in your home if you thought it was hideous. Your individual tastes are your own, so I do in a way agree with the above comment. However, art really doesn't have rules necessarily. It comes in many forms as well as from a place deep within the artist themselves. It is a literal expression of their every emotion and of who they are. So I could also understand why harsh criticism would hurt as well. Art is one of the few things in life that has no prerequisites or stipulations. It is pure and raw, regardless if it's an image you colored in from a book, or a master piece you've painted yourself. So I always encourage others to forget the rules and to just create simply because of how it makes them feel, not because of what others may think of them.

Everyone is open to give his or her opinion, so I think it is acceptable to criticize a person's art but not to the extent that you are degrading the artist. This is because, like you, they are only just expressing their self. We all have different views about art and what doesn't conform to your perception of beautiful, doesn't mean that its already not. Just like the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". It is important that we still maintain respect to the artist whenever we criticize their work.

Art is a very important part of our lives. It can be found in every aspect of what we do and who we are. It doesn't matter what is our culture and generation. Art is everywhere. It is the expression of oneself with the most common in visual form such as painting. In art, there is something called art criticism. It is when you evaluate the art base in the context of aesthetics or the theory of beauty. It is only natural that someone critics your art specially if you are going to sell it. Usually, artists need the positive opinions of critics for their arts to be viewed and purchased.

As a result, artists feel uneasy or doesn't get along with their critics. Who would like to be criticized right? Personally, I wouldn't want to be criticized for doing something that I love. But art criticism is a necessary evil. Use it to develop your art, treat it as stepping stones to further your skills. Channel the emotion to better express yourself.

Critics of art, known as art critics evaluate in a subjective or personal preference. I believe that there is no wrong art because it is you. Art is your expression. It is never wrong to be true to yourself in a world that is full of pretentious people. Do not let someone bring you down. Don't give them the right to make you feel bad in doing your passion. They don't matter, you matter. And, it's not as if everyone will not like your art right? You cannot please everybody. Lastly, it's only art critics who has the right to judge. Do not let some wannabe art critic who doesn't know art to distract you from doing your passion.

I believe that if you've created art and either distributed it or allowed someone to view it, you should be prepared to accept criticism. I think it's fair, because you've released it to the public. If you want praise, you have to also be prepared to accept the more negative reviews.

Now, it's an entirely different matter if you created the work for yourself instead of someone else. For example, a child in an art class should not be criticized. Helped with their technique, perhaps, but not criticized for their expression. Similarly, if you come across a personal sketchbook, that's not something to critique. Private works, done only for the artist themself, should be free from criticism. Those truly are works of self-expression, and should not be judged through another person's eyes.

Art is an expression of what that person creating it is seeing and feeling. How people receive it is their prerogative.; just as much as it was the artist's prerogative to create their vision. How someone feels about something is not something that you can control. You feel what you feel. Anyone who puts their work out should know that their will be critics. Some may be good and some may be bad. It is a risk you take when you put yourself and your work out there. You definitely have to have confidence in yourself and your work. If the artist learns to listen to what they think about the piece, and not others, they will be just fine. Besides, sensitivity is becoming more of a plague than cold feet on a wedding day, in the country. We should not have to worry about peoples feelings. Those feelings belong to you, and you should not give me any ability to own your feelings. Something to think about.
