Most people end up disappointed after spending time to watch recently released movies. Some say it is because the recently released movies are not as good as the old ones? Often times majority of the people who watch recent movies complain either about the plot, the presentation and more. It seems that despite movies becoming easier to make, the most important aspects of it are reducing in quality.

Some people argue that it is because this generation of viewers are difficult to please that the qualities of movies appears to have declined. According to them, the standard of movie quality have gone up in recent times compared to the past. Do you think that movies are getting worse?

I think that it depends on the plot and audience of the movie. The graphics and overall quality are much better than most older movies simply because of newer technology. The plot of most movies, however, has gone downhill. It’s not that they are necessarily bad movies but they have just simply been done before. We’ve gotten to the point where of the majority of recently realeased movies are remakes or simply steal the plot of older movies. This doesn’t make them bad so much as over done.

In the current age, a lot of the actors we used to watch while growing up have become older and therefore not casted in most movies. There are a lot of new actors, who are just making their breakthrough and want to prove themselves. Even if we are not used to them, we should give them a chance. I understand how people can view newer movies as worse, because of this reason and others. We shouldn't forget that nowadays a lot of producers rely on effects too much and not on the acting skills that much, so that also has it's effect.

This is a difficult question to answer because often times we are too blinded by nostalgia to enjoy new movies. I believe that there are many horrible movies being produced that are worse than movies from the past. A lot of movies tend to use ideas from old movies, therefore, new movies tend to lack individuality and uniqueness. However, the acting is just as good as it was in previous generations and there are plenty of excellent new movies to watch from 2018.

It's not that the movies are getting worse; it's that we now have higher standards and more options available—not to mention shorter attention spans. The average moviegoer of today is much harder to please than one from a generation or two ago. In our grandparents' time, there were fewer movies, fewer TV shows, and definitely no internet. With a lack of options, our grandparents and their contemporaries found it easier to appreciate whatever entertainment they had. Movie directors and producers made do with unrealistic-looking props and shoddy animation, and the audiences loved it. And these old people look back to these movies with a lot of nostalgia, remembering the happy emotions they felt as they were watching these movies many years ago.

Now I've watched Citizen Kane, and I'm sure most of the older folk who have watched this movie have only great things to say about it; it is, after all, listed as one of the greatest movies of all time. And yet, I didn't like it. I thought the twist at the end was corny and lacked foreshadowing, I found the characters hard to relate to, and I could not find myself sympathizing with the protagonist, no matter how hard I tried. I believe that had this same movie been made during our generation, it would have been panned by critics. There's plenty of competition now, not just among movies, but also with TV shows, streaming services, YouTube videos, and video games, so the bar for quality has been raised so much higher.

I don't agree with that statement. Even in the past, their were inferior movies and there were movies with terrible storyline.

Technology is advanced and high quality movies are produced this days. That does not mean we don't have inferior movies this days but nowadays, we watch movies with better quality and better storyline.

    No..
It’s all getting better as people learn new and better ways to do things.
The first problem is that it is also easier and cheaper than ever to produce and distribute music and movies and thus easier to find media that isn’t good.
The Second problem is that not every year is going to produce a masterpiece such as Beethoven’s ninth symphony.
The third is not really a problem but a matter of perspective : Time filters the good stuff to the top, some of the worst things are remembered as absolutely “you must see this” bad, and the rest of the middling quality stuff is forgotten to all but the very few.
The same will happen with today’s media, the very best will be remembered as the absolute must see or must listen to classics, some will be remembered as jokes and the rest will be forgotten and people will ask the same question again about their time period’s arts
