I find that meditation is the only way I can relieve my stress after a long day of work. I light candles and listen to good music such as Chinese music or mediation songs such as the sound of rain or the shore. I like to sit quietly and sometimes I just light candles and just stay silent since talking seems to stress me out and I do that all day. I find that staying in silence is nice. I also like to focus on clearing my mind and focus on the word, "nothing." It then empties my brain and I like to just avoid thinking about any problem I have. Decorating my home is important and also my living area and spaces where I stay the most. I like using led christmas lights and making an atmosphere year-round to have a calming mood and effect on my silence and meditation. Please feel free to post what you do to meditate in your free time. Also, how you set up an atmosphere to be calming when you want to relax!

My meditation time is usually a very important section of my day. I also refer to it as my quite time and it's that moment where I get to reflect on the various aspects of my life. My dreams and aspirations. And most importantly my spiritual relationship with God.

I usually set the mood by listening to Gospel worship music, especially Elevation Worship songs. These music just gets into me and sets the atmosphere just right for me to have my quite time. After the atmosphere is right, I can then meditate for a maximum of 30 minutes, after which I go on with other activities.

It sounds like BrevinSittoni knows how to relax! That said, I take a different approach. I prefer to to use one of the guided meditations in the Calm app or the Headspace app. I use Calm more, because I prefer their product (and I paid for the $59 membership so I want to get the most value out of it), and Headspace only once or twice a month. The meditations are soothing and address different emotional challenges like anger, anxiety or stress. I like to meditate first thing in the morning to set a relaxed tone for the day, but a lot of my friends prefer to meditate at night (they say they sleep better).

I've never meditated without an app. Does anyone have good tips on meditating without an app? I'd like to try it since I do kinda feel like I'm "cheating" using the apps sometimes.

As a muslim, my main method of meditation is through five daily prayers and listening to the recitation of my holy book. It is usually enough to relax me inspite of the worst days
