Would you rather be making art (in any of its forms) or just be enjoying what others have made?

Although I do enjoy trying to create art of my own, more often I am content with enjoying what others have made, especially with certain mediums. For example, I love listening to music and discovering new bands, but I have no desire to try and create my own. I do however, enjoy dabbling in photography and occasionally writing. And I like to admire others' photographs and read what others have written in order to gain inspiration for my own work.

Definitely both, I Dont even think you can be a creator if you arent first an admirer, I think that stands for everything in life. You have to first understand what you are working with to be able to re create it and make it your own. Life is about learning from others and seeing what helped them and doing that, I think its super Important to make sure you always look around you in the world and understand whats going on.

I'd like to believe I'm both. I have phases when I can create and produce profusely. Moments when I'm at my creative best. But there are times when I can sit with pen and paper, colors and paints for days and even weeks without producing a line or a single image. These are times, particularly, when I love to go through and admire the works done by others, trying to siphon out some degree of inspiration and appreciating the creator's ideas and imagination. It always fills me with awe at how different minds work in different ways, the capacity of mortal minds to think so differently, so beautifully. Sometimes I guess I'm more of an admirer than creator. there is just so much to see!

I would rather be doing both making art and enjoying the work that other people create. One thing I have done in the past and really like is going to an art museum to look at all the different amazing art that is on the walls. My grandfather was an artist and he painted so many pictures plus he also taught art classes at a local community college. One other talent of mine is definitely art which runs in my family too. I took an art class at a museum before and I did a painting of gourds. It was a fun class and a wonderful learning experience.

I'm an admirer of art. I like figurative sculptures. I find looking around an art gallery or any installation relaxing, and gives a sense of time out. I think anybody can be creative to a degree, but really being original and artistic is another thing again.

I would have to agree with the majority here. To be a creator one would have to be an admirer, and to be an admirer you would also be a creator. When you first get an idea and you become excited and curious to know and learn more about it, chances are you were inspired by something or someone and you therefore admired what you seen or heard. When I admire things, I usually in turn create something. Once that creation is in progress or has been completed, my cycle then starts over again and admire what I have created.

I am an admirer who terribly wishes he could create lol! I love art so much and always wished that I had the gift of drawing but it was just never in the cards for me. I can barely draw stick people lol but I love viewing art, especially abstract art. My home is full of all types of abstracts and I get compliments on my taste in the selection of my abstracts. I am an admirer but for sure have the strong spirit of a creator lol.

I don't admire ALL art but there is a lot of it I do. So in that sense I guess I am an admirer. I am also a creator. I think everyone is. People sometimes think you need certain skills to be an artist. You do if you want to write a hit song (or even a viral one;)) or if you want to paint a realistic painting, etc. Sometimes these things can be learned but the best, imho, are born with "it".

Then you have the other forms of art where "skills" aren't really necessary. For example, abstract or mixed media. I don't mean throw things together and bam! you have art. When it comes to this kind you have to have some idea to begin with. Some sort of inspiration to lead you. If not, then maybe (reading up on colors and mediums) letting the material lead you...or your emotions. Some can be artists this way.

Then there are the creators. And that's me. That's everyone (or at least should be). Create artwork, create a short film, create a story, create an awesome dish. Take your regular way of cooking and change it up a bit. We are ALL creators. Some people just don't realize it.

I'd have to say that I'm both, although I doubt very much that's it's possible to be a creator without being an admirer, also. I work with a variety of mediums and tools. One day I may do some pencil sketching, while another day I get the urge to work with watercolors. Mixed media is something I'm venturing into more often these days.

I am now working on making my art more commercial, to a degree. I've sold work in the past but there are many options now to easily turn art into tangible items like tote bags and t-shirts. I've been focusing on creating pieces that work well with hard product lines and will eventually have them for sale on a website. I've bought the domain and have just begun to develop it for this purpose.

I am an admirer. I very big admirer. A deep admirer. I think, I even admire art more than the creators. I am able to read meanings and even add meanings that I am pretty sure the creator didn't think of. Art is not only pictures or sculptures.

Music is art. Pictures are art. Dance is an art. They all have their ways of telling you a story that can not only be told but expressed and felt for a deeper understand.

My admiration for arts give me inspiration to create. I can listen to some of my favorite bands and come up with a idea for a song or I can look at my favorite painter and get inspired to paint on my blank canvas.

Many great points put forward by all of you. Art can truly inspire one to want to start creating, that's definitely a huge positive. I'm both an admirer and creator, I've even been paid for some of my work which I'm happy about. No, I'm not one of those artists that you will find in galleries as I work on a contractual basis for clients. Most of my work is for commercial projects which I'm not at liberty to discuss. However, I'm glad to see so many of the commentators here find art engaging and that it adds value to their lives.

I'm kind of both, I guess. I like creating, but I prefer admiring what other people do more, it's inspirational. Artists, in all forms of art media, are talented at what they do and being able to see what they do is something that is pleasing to do. It's simply amazing to see what people can do.

I am an admirer of art. My Mother had wonderful artistic talent,,, she painted in oils, acyrilics, and water colors as well as doing drawings in charcoal, pencil both colored and just regular pencil as well as beautiful drawings using crayons and markers. She did ceramics as well as made her own molds, carving in wood and stone as well as bars of soap. I have two sisters who are very artistic also. Me? Not even a little.
I love going to museums and displays of art anywhere I can see them. I am so in awe of those who are able to create so much beauty. My Mother has passed away and I have a lot of her art on my walls and have given some to each of my children to hang in their homes to remember her by.

I create jewelry in my spare time and I must say that for me it is a mixture of both. I like to get inspiration by taking a look at other pieces. Then I go out and create my own. I have been inspired actually today on pinterest seeing how many jewelry makers are telling vivid stories with their jewelry. I love it. So, I like to create and admire!

I love to create and admire art. I create art because it gives me peace and happiness. I admire art because it gives me inspiration. Abstract paintings are one of my favorite projects to create. Drawings of people and nature are my favorite things to admire.

I believe I am both. But I guess I am more of an admirer at some point. I never stop admiring many works of art so much that I make it my motivation to make good arts as well. I don't really get satisfied with my work. I always feel something's lacking every time I make one, so it's hard for me to fully admire my works than I do with other artists. But even so, I always open myself to new ideas and learnings to improve my skills :)

Like most of the people on this thread, I am more of an admirer. As a child, I've taken some lessons in music and drawing, but I don't have the kind of patience and endurance it takes to become really good. I'm occasionally playing with the idea of creative writing, but I'm yet to finish any serious work.

The only art I've mastered so far is that of procrastination.
