I do listen to music while I am studying. I listen to music while doing pretty much everything, so studying is no exception! To me, music makes studying a lot more fun. Hearing my favourite songs puts me in such a good mood, while studying drains me completely. Without music, I don't think I could bring myself to study as much as I actually need to.

I do, but you need to choose carefully.
Best choice would be some relaxing music and even soundtracks from games. If you pick something distracting, let's just say you won't learn much. Classical music is also a good choice if you are into that. Maybe some electronic music but I can't say because I personally am not a fan.

I tend to do it sometimes, but what usually happens is that I start singing the lyrics because I know the songs so well. I end up forgetting what I was trying to memorize in the first place. I'd rather finish my work before listening to music, so I can relax while listening. I feel this ~30 min relaxation is worth more than ~1 hour of a constant distractino from the lyrics of the song to the work you are trying to complete.

Yes, listening to music can relax me and make me comfortable to study. I can easily understand what I'm reading if I'm listening to music, But I prefer slow song like "love song" than rock song because rock song can disturb me. Music also help me to focus on what I'm studying specially if I have not been studying and the exam is already approaching.

I usually listen to music even when I am studying. It helps me to memorize more and absorb more of the information that I am studying. It helps me to focus while having fun while I am studying. I really love music and I cannot be apart from it. I also listen to music while studying because it keeps me alive and awake than studying without music. It could be a great way and tool to study anyway. :)

    Hi Shri15,
I see we are together in this. Every time I tune my music while studying, I find myself diverting my concentration from the content I study to the lyrics of the music. I even find myself forgetting that I was studying and begin to join the artist of the song in singing.

Just like Yhanne has said, people are different. Others will find full concentration in their studies while listening to misic. To others me included, I would rather finish the reading after which I embark on listening to the lyrics of the music and the message being passed across. After all, I need maximum concentration from both studying and listening to the music hence I spend time in giving my attention to one after another.

I listen to music without words or in a foreign language while I'm studying. Music helps me focus and get into the mood, but if it's in English, I find myself concentrating on the words and sometimes even typing lyrics subconsciously. I have a playlist where I rotate songs I don't know yet to avoid jamming out though.

I listen to music when I do some things like editing videos and such but when I study for a test or a school work, I don't. This is for the reason being that music no matter how calm can distract me from actually absorbing information. But this doesn't mean that one should not listen to music when they study. This is merely my preference and each person's way of learning is different from one another.

If you are more comfortable in studying while listening, go for it. If you're not comfortable, don't. It's always a matter of choice and preference.

It is impossible for me to study without listening to music, because it can get boring very fast. There are some negative parts that come with it though. One of the minuses is that you can lose your focus, while trying to appreciate the melody or pay too much attention to the lyrics of your favorite songs. Despite that, studying can be really monotonous and therefore it's easy to lose motivation without having something to entertain you such as music. That's why I prefer having some background noise while working on different projects.

I don't really listen to music while I study but when I do I listen to the band Modest Mouse or Oasis or Chinese meditation music! It's amazing because these are songs that are really nice to listen to and calming and I find I can study better. Growing up, I never really listened to music studying for my parents were really strict about having a study time so to speak, with making sure I had a well lighted room with the windows open. In college, I played chinese meditation music while studying and Oasis has a few albums that are nice so in the background at low volume was always the best to listen to!

I do listen to some but not all genres of music while studying. Music like Gospel worship and nice RnB are some of the genres I can listen to. This is because of the intricate nature of the lyrics in such music. It's slow, passionate nature makes it awesome to listen to whilst studying. However, I cannot listen to hip hop since it would be hard for me to concentrate.

Personally, I find it distracting to listen to music while I work on academic work, especially work that requires writing. I can listen to music, however when I am working on creative work, such as a drawing or painting. Instead of music, I prefer background noise. For example, studying in a Panera Bread.

Well, it depends on the subject. If I am studying maths or anything that involves calculations then I prefer listening to music, otherwise I prefer a quite enviroment to help me understand my studies.

Yes, I do. I love listening to relaxing beats that help me concentrate. However, I'm unable to listen to songs with lyrics in them since they distract me more than anything.

We have different preferences in our ways of study. I just prefer not to listen to music while studying. I'm a silent student. I get distracted easily when there is noise so I always study in my room with the doors close.

I usually listen to music when studying. But, I usually listen to music that is more calming or slow. This isn't usually the kind of music that I love listening to, but if the music is too loud or fast paced, it makes it difficult for me to pay attention, and even more difficult if I'm trying to learn something.
