How do you discover new music?

    I love discovering new music. My main way is to ask my friends what they're listening to and what they recommend. I was once in a book and film club, it would be interesting to set up a music club where everyone listens to and discusses a song.

    Asking friends is one way to discover new music, but it would vary though since some friends would have a different taste for music than you. Another way which I would suggest is to use Spotify, it's an app and it also has a site, they usually make playlists which would include "top 100" or you could browse through the genres they listed. So if you're into looking for new country songs, it's available! They even have a choice for music which you can listen to while you're working out or studying.

    Friends can be a good source of discovering new music but its not entirely reliable. Personally I do tune in and watch atleast four programmes every week that highlight great hits of the week either top thirty or top ten and from there I not only find the trending songs but also new releases from artists. Artists also have this big announcements of what they have lined up for their fans and when new releases will be due, so I depend on that too.

    Often when searching for new music I use two different tools. The first one is Sirius XM Satellite Radio which I listen to almost as often as my vehicle is turned on. Satellite Radio often has the scoop when it comes to fresh music. What I don't hear on Sirus XM I often find on YouTube by browsing my favorite bands and seeing what is recommended to me.

    Back in the good old days, I discovered new music watching MTV. Now that MTV only broadcast reality shows, I now discover new music through various television shows and movies. I recently start listening to a band called Celldweller. I heard a song by them called "Goodbye" on an episode of Alias.

    I ask for suggestions from friends/family who know what I am into. I also find a lot of new music on Youtube. When I was younger, it was all about the radio since that was really the only thing I could use to access new music. I used to wake up early on the weekends and listen to a show called The Cut. It was on before the top 40, and they played a lot of new songs. It was fun hearing things before most people.

    If you have Spotify downloaded that can be a good way to discover new music! I know it's easy to create playlists of your old favorite songs and to hear the more mainstream music but if you're willing, I'd recommend checking out their new music tab and listening to songs in other genres.

    Asking your friends about what they listen to is good, but I discover new music through blog talk online radio shows and through sites like reverbnation. I know these sites are home for many underground artist. Another way is on you tube as well.

    I normally just search my favorite artist on Youtube. Chas7400 mentioned MTV, I miss watching that too. I still think the 80's and 90's had the best music and I still listen to some of those artists that are still around today, for example Mariah Carey and Modonna. I do like a some artist from today like Leona Lewis and Rihanna. The music from the 2000's and today just don't compare to the music I used to listen too.

    Their are all kinds of ways to discover new music! One of the best ways is to visit Pandora, their are so many songs there, Just search up an Artist and you will see how many recommendations you will receive. I really recommend you trying out Pandora.

    I guess I got into music by listening to what my mom was playing when I was young. She loved soul music very much. When Hip Hop came along, I was influenced by my older brothers as well.

    I discover new music through Musicxray. This is an exciting site that unveil new artists and new music. Also, I used Jango to listen new music which is great. Last FM is also the next that I would find new music and artists. Word-A-Mouth sometime from friend also help me to find and know new music.

    Cool question. Well there are many different varieties to discover new music. Obviously, one of the most used options out there is YouTube.
    YouTube, matches your taste in music by recommending certain kinds of music, on the same page your song is being played on. That is one way, you can discover new songs. Also, there are different kinds of music playlists that exist and all you have to do to access them is to search a certain type of genre you like on YouTube and then click search, after you click search you can go to filters, which is right below the search bar and select playlists. This will show you many playlists, that are centered around the genre you like, which most likely have songs that will be new to you.

    Secondly, you can sign up for a cool website called Rdio and that website has tons of music in most of the genres you can imagine. Rdio is a great way to find new songs, because after choosing to play one song that you like, it creates a music playlist dedicated to your preference and shows you songs that match your taste. That is how i found out many cool songs, which i did not know previously existed.
