In today's world, personal computer with internet connection is a common thing. But it is quite alarming that most of the kids are being addicted to playing games on it. They do not like to go out and play with their friends. This can adversely affect their physical and mental growth.

I personally feel that it is okay to give him a limited amount of time to play with computers everyday. At the same time, outdoor games should be encouraged which is very much required for his overall growth.

I hope, most of you will agree with me on this.

I find your opinion to be very logical and reasonable. I also believe that kids nowadays are spending too much of their time staring blankly at an iPad or smartphone that they don't have the time to really experience a great childhood! Staring at electronic screens for an extended amount of time is definitely detrimental to the child's physical health.

I think outdoor games are a great way for them to improve their physical health. As for mental health, I think it would be really good for an adult to consistently read to their child in bed. Ebooks would not be a good idea. I think it would be much better to use paperback books. Also, playing board games with the kids is also a great way to enrich their minds.

I think video game addiction, particularly for kids, is becoming a larger problem nowadays. However, I think if parents really choose to get involved with their kids, this will cease to be a problem.

I'm a parent and very concerned about this issue. Both of my girls have tablet devices (one is Android and one is Kindle) and they spend far too much time on them, in my opinion.
I'm making them stay off them as much as I can this summer. I have gotten them some outside toys and games, some craft kits, new books and I am trying to find activities for us to all do together during the day. They keep trying to carry those devices around with them even when we are doing other things, though, so I guess I need to start getting more strict on them and actually taking them and putting them up for a few hours a day so that they have no choice!

I have this same concern with my sons so much so that I recently started taking their phones at night especially my older son who will stay up all night talking and texting. I also starting taking their phones and tablets on Friday nights at 9 pm and they can get them back until Monday morning at 9 am. I also limit the amount of time they spend playing their video game with my older son says is an insult because they are only allowed to play the game for an hour each and if they decide to play the same game then I add 30 minutes but outside of that time they go outside. I would love for to read more this summer and I think I going to stop allowing them to read or using their electronics until they read everyday for 1 hour.

I LOVE that idea of making them read before getting their devices back!
I think I might integrate that with my girls if their dad's okay with it. Maybe make sure their chores are all done, they've done at least half of an hour of reading, maybe have them spend fifteen minutes playing with our pets or tending to them then they can have their devices for an hour or two (depending on day, time, weather).
Thank you for sharing your ideas and how you handle it! It helped me!
