A song that's made me cry is Demi Lovato's 'Sober.' Personally, I have been fortunate enough to never have dealt with drug addiction, but this song still tugs at my heartstrings. Not only does the amount of emotion and sorrow in her voice overwhelm you with a wave of despair, but the lyrics really tell her story of her struggle with drug abuse. It made me cry my eyes out the first time I heard it. It's a really good song, and if you want to listen to some sad songs on a rainy day, I definitely recommend this.

One song that has made me cry is the song Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran. I know, it's a little cliche, but the lyrics hit close to home for me. Basically, the song talks about the nostalgia of being away from home and growing up, seeing all of those you grew up with grow up too, and turn into their own people. I go to Canada every summer and as a child, I made a lot of friends who I would only see during the summer. Obviously we all changed a lot during the year, and it was always refreshing to see them again. One line that really sticks with me is "These people raised me and I can't wait to come home". This reminds me of the people who raised me that have passed on, and I remember them all whenever I hear this song. This is probably the only song that has made me ugly-cry.

The first song that made me cry was "Somebody to Love" by Queen. I must've been ten or eleven years old, my level of English was not good enough for me to undestand the lyrics, so I had a very vague idea of what the song was about. But the music and the voices are so beautiful and the song is so emotional that it made me cry.

I discovered A Little Too Much by Shawn Mendes at a really dark point in my life. Hearing that a celebrity went through a dark period and wrote a song proving that it gets better really spoke to me. There are also many songs that are just piano that speak to me too. I think music speaks louder than words many times.

Bad Religion by Frank Ocean made me cry the first few times I listened to it. It talks about his identity struggles as he tells a taxi driver about his troubles. He pleads with the driver to take the long route home because he desperately needs someone to talk to, probably because he cant share this side of him with anyone else. He also talks about having three steak knives balanced on top of head referring to unstable balancing act he has to do in public to hide his true self. The song continues to include religion and love and ends with him questioning whether or not God loves him and how it is futile to be in love with someone or something that won't love you back.

There's a Filipino song which always makes me cry upon hearing. The lyrics go something like "I will grow old and fade away, but there's a song I will leave in your memory because there was once a time we spent together."
And because "Its Impossible" sung by Elvis brings back memories of my mom singing along with him, the words have a deeper meaning which always brings me to tears.

Personally I love listening to songs that make me cry. I love to feel and songs can capture human emotion so perfectly. Mitski is one of the few artists that embody femininity and the struggles of being a POC woman in the dating world. Her song ‘Your Best American Girl’ is beautifully heartbreaking glimpse into her discography. I also have a couple of male friends that listen to her and have cried to her music.
