Do you think that games are a source of learning?

I believe that some games can teach you a lot, while others... not so much. I believe that multiplayer games teach you the most, though. You learn a lot of communication skills from them, especially games like Roblox where you can chat with everybody on the server. It all depends on the game you play, though.

I believe so. Especially with children, as play is their natural language. I feel that as we get older, we are able to access neural networks through gaming which we are otherwise unable to. This isn't an excuse to "go out and just play games," but rather it is a way to be meaningful about learning. Games, no matter what age, can be a way to maintain your attention and build focus. They also enable you to build new connections with information, creating more retrieval cues, and potentially enhancing memory regarding a certain topic. Thinking about it in school--I remember enjoying test reviews feeling more engaging and beneficial when it was turned into a game (e.g., Jeopardy, Around the World).

This is a great thread to respond. Well, I'm a gamer of a 5 vs 5 game called "Dota 2," for almost 4 years now and basing from my experience, it requires a team coordination, fast reaction, map awareness, correct targeting, timing and some of the skills that needs to have for you to consider a good player being yourself. A lot of games similar to this one has the same mechanics and skill required to attain a high winning chance, but people today don't pay attention that much in the arts of how the game will played correctly and doesn't have the knowledge requires of what being a good player, as long as they enjoy it. I myself learned something by just playing this game that I didn't learned from the rest of my life that's why I appreciate this game and all sort of games like this because it teaches a lot of expertise and ability to become competent not by just playing but can apply in real life.

Of course they are! Almost any piece of media and entertainment can be used for learning, including video games. Video games taught me english, although on a basic - primitive level. Also, video games are great for training your memory and reflexes, with puzzles, quick time events etc. But, not all games are made for honing yourself, some are simply made to pass the time and just lose yourself for a while.

Yes I believe games can teach you a lot. Most games require thinking, strategy and fast reaction times. Multiplayer games also teaches great things about teamwork. There have been a lot of research studies based on your question, and I would say around 90% of them came up with the conclusion that yes, games can definitely teach people. Most researchers said that games can enhance a person's coordination and visual skills. They also teach planning and problem solving.

Some teach and others don't. I feel like, if it's a game someone put effort into, you'll definitely gain something from it. It could be fast-thinking or strategy like the last person replied, or it could general logic and complex-thinking. And even if the game doesn't give you any of these, it could give you a new avenue through which to see something. Good games usually give something, whether the creator intends it or not.
