From where I am from, swimming outdoors is the only option. We are living beside the sea so, when I feel like it, I would just go out there to take a swim. Also, the only pool we have here use fresh flowing water in the midst of coconut trees. In my younger days, we usually go on a swimming picnic whether by the sea or by the pool.

I don't see the attraction of swimming inside, nor in a pool. Most areas near where I live have a coast line or outdoor naturally occurring lakes. Swimming in streams and rivers that come from mountains is one of my favorite things to do.

For hygienic purposes I prefer indoor swimming it is way cleaner. When you swim outdoors you deal with all the elements in the air which is not very clean over all.

I don't go swimming often (I really should though, It's so fun!) but when I do go swimming it's often inside mostly because it has a more consistent temperature than outside where in my country (United Kingdom) it can go from being unbelievably hot to throwing it down with rain. Swimming outside however is more fun because it gives you a sense of freedom you just don't get from swimming in somewhere like a gym or inside pool.

I dislike swimming outdoors in lakes or beaches. I prefer swimming in a swimming pool because I know that the water is regulated and the pools are cleaned regularly. A lake or beach is probably filled with lots of animal poop. I have also cut my foot on a sharp rock before. Also, I am always paranoid that a shark or some scary fish might try to attack me!

I did travel to Asia a while back and some of the beaches there were amazing. The water was warm and clear. However, you still don't know how dirty the water could be.

Yes, but only under specific weather conditions. Obviously, swimming outdoors in the winter is a horrible idea, but swimming outdoors when it is really hot outside is usually a great experience. Outdoor swimming pools that have water-slides are a great place to bring the whole family in for a good time, as long as your child is old enough to ride the slide. I also like swimming outdoors because after the swim, I tend to tan my body, something that would be impossible at indoor swimming pools.

I have been swimming outdoors all my life. In fact I have never swam anywhere else. I was born and raised in the Caribbean and lived next to the ocean so swimming was basically a daily activity. We have sunshine all throughout the year so it's always summertime at home. I have never seen snow or experienced frozen lakes or oceans. The water is always clear, warm and safe!

The ocean can be either better or worse than a swimming pool. In New Zealand, I'm surrounded by beaches which can have vastly different conditions. There are calm beaches, and beaches with huge waves which the adrenalin junkie in me loves. The city council tests the water at all the beaches during the summer, and generally they're quite clean with only a few exceptions, so in terms of contaminant levels, the ocean's great.

I just hate to swim in places where I cannot see all parts of my own body. There was an incident where I accidentally picked up a crab when I was 8, and since then, I've flinched every time I touch anything solid in the water, even pieces of seaweed. The beaches closer to the city look far murkier than rural beaches though, so I never swim at them. I also don't have my own car, so I can't go to the beach as often as I would like.

To me, pools are far more convenient for most of the year while the ocean's too cold. I can even take a bus to a pool after school, or during the weekend. However, swimming indoors can never beat that huge sense of freedom you can only get while swimming outdoors in the open ocean.

I would love to but there is nothing much to here outdoors where I live. So, if I have to swim in open I must travel to almost 200 kilometers away and if I chose to swim in an ocean that will be even further. But when I go in places having beaches I really enjoy outdoor swimming. I love swimming in rivers and ponds too.

For me, the best place for swimming is my club's swimming pool where each member is allowed to spend 1 hour every day. In case someone wants to stay for longer, he is needed to pay extra at the rate of Rs 100 per hour. I generally stay about half an hour at the most.

I would definitely prefer to swim outdoors. There is nothing better than swimming in cool water on a humid day. It's great exercise either way. I don't mind indoors but I would choose outdoors most days. Also, I love nature and the only way to see that is outdoors.

No I don't because I fear large bodies of water. Any thing that is an unknown scares me. Swimming in the ocean, in the deep part scares me so much. There is something about dark waters that instills terror in me. I would rather swim indoor, in pool because I can see the everything. The water is clear and free from the unknown. But I like the freedom of a big ocean offers but at the same time terrifies me.

Where I'm from the is no indoor swimming pools. We live in the country so we have swimming holes is what we call them. They are just little Creeks as cold as an ice cube. We do have several ponds that are man made, and they are warmer of course because they aren't a moving stream of water like the Creek.

I must admit I don't feel the need to hit a swimming hole anymore unless it's just to wade in it to cool myself off. I'm much to old to take the shock of that cold, cold water. I prefer to stay indoors with controlled climate at my finger tips.

Swimming outdoors is my preferred way to swim. That's the way we swan growing up. I like the natural sun on my body, I like to see the beautiful surroundings while I am swimming, and the sun dries me off quicker than being indoors. I have swam indoors a couple of times but the water is too cold for my liking. There is a certain smell that comes with indoor pools and it isn't too pleasant. The natural sun can also sanitize the pool which is an awesome benefit. And, with the sun shining down on the poll, the water won't be so cold.

Both swimming indoors and swimming outdoors have their fair share of positives and negatives. While swimming indoors can be clean and fish-free, with no rocks to agonize you while standing on the pool floor, it can be quite boring if the purpose of swimming is not training.

The beach offers you a great deal of scenery that you certainly don’t get to enjoy indoors. It’s also a great place to spend quality time with family members and friends as there are many more activists to be done other than merely swimming for the whole time.

However, if you are not a fan of tanning under the scorching sun just like me, then swimming indoors is definitely recommended.

Where I'm from, lakes and ponds are full of gators. Not recommended.

However, the beach is lovely scenery with many activities, if you are willing to get burned a little bit.
