If and/or when I listen to music while I read, I can't listen to any songs that have a lot of lyrics or are fun to sing along to. It causes my mind to drift elsewhere and the next thing I know, I can't remember what's happening in the book.

I can not listen to music while I read. It distracts me and makes my mind go crazy! I wish I could. Maybe I could try music with no lyrics!

I love listening to music while reading. I cannot keep track of the lyrics of the song playing because every time I read something interesting I tend to be so engrossed in the details. However, it feels nice to hear something in my ears every time I read. Most of the songs I listen to are acoustic songs and calming instrumentals.

I prefer not listening to music while I am reading a book. I think music is very distracting and it makes it harder for me to understand what I am reading. I used to listen to music while reading but I stopped doing it because I had to reread the sentences just to understand everything.

One of the things I hate most is noise pollution while studying. I grew up with a brother who love playing music and we had lots of problems because of that. Music distract me most if it is being played in the room I'm studying in.

In my opinion, I don't really like listening to music while reading because it distracts me from the story. However, I do like listening to music while studying and doing homework as it makes me feel less bored and tired. I believe that I complete tasks much faster if I enjoy doing something.

sometimes when I read I listen to classical music, which I find relaxing. I can't concentrate if there is a voice that sings because I end up paying attention to the words of the song instead of the text I'm reading.

For me when reading in a crowded or noisy area, or some where I can easily be distracted listening to music with an headphone is the best thing every❤. It keeps you Focused.

I understand where you are coming from, but I personally find it quite relaxing. To me, it creates the perfect blend of stress relieving activities as it is a combination of two of my favorite pastimes. It feels amazing to have music serenade my ears while, at the same time, I enjoy an interesting novel. That is my perspective on the topic, but it was good to hear yours.

Sometimes, reading while playing classical music in the background is nice. If it matches the mood of the story, then that's even better. But I would not play songs with lyrics since they can distract me from whatever I'm reading. Also, it depends on my mood, to be honest. Some days, yes to music. Other days, I need peace and quiet.

I personally find is very difficult to listen to music while reading. When i am reading i have to be completely focused on the book in order to comprehend it. All so i find it hard to multitask while listening to music because i get really involved into what i am listening to. I do enjoy listening to music while exercising.

Everyone is different obviously but I prefer to listen to music while I read. It just allows me to concentrate better and I enjoy the book even more. Although alot of the time I do find myself so engrossed in a book that I pay no attention to when the music stops playing. But reading while listening to music is always better.

Personally, I don't like listening to music while reading. Music steals my attention from whatever I am reading, thus, making me distracted instead of focused. It varies depending on the person, so each person may have a different opinion regarding this topic.

At my teenage days I could easily listen to music while reading and studying, but nowadays I can't handle more than one thing at a time, so my answer for this question is "no"

Overall it depends on my mood, but when I'm able to focus. music makes for a nice background noise while I work or read. Sometimes, I'll even read to the beat of the song.

Usually, no. If it is instrumental music then I don't mind and I will listen to music while I read. If the music has lyrics then I am trying to focus on the words to the song as I'm also trying to read. It makes it very difficult to keep focusing on the book and the storyline to what I am reading.

I find it distracting to be honest. When I read, I like to immerse myself in the book and the world that I'm experiencing through the book. When I listen to music, I almost want to do the same time-immerse myself in the song and let it tell it's story to me.

Most definitely not. Although I prefer music over silence, I found that reading and listening do not merge well together. My mind periodically shifts from focusing on the music to the text I'm reading. It just prolongs the process of understanding the text, so I found complete silence a more efficient way to get my assignments done.

I used to listen to music while I read, but the music I listened to had lyrics. I found I couldn't focus on either one very well. So now, I don't listen to music while I read.

After reading some of the replies to this thread, I think I might try listening to music again. This time around, I'm going to go for instrumental music and have it be quiet background noise. It'll definitely make the reading experience more interesting!
