Religion keeps the morals of the people in check.But is that all it does?

I’m an atheist. And by nature, I tend to question the purpose of religion. To this question my mother answers, not in a pleasant way, that if there was no religion you would get raped every time you went out. That’s all she ever says.
Also, the origin stories just don’t make sense anymore. But “Big History” does.
So is that all there is to religion? To scare people into behaving.

Well if that’s the case, the stats say that it is not working very well. Hundreds of people get raped every day and some of them even killed after! How is transphobic violence again the LGBTQ+ religious!

Please let me know how can we stay at home worshipping the gods believing they will save the world when it’s us who went out there and ruined it.

 

My parents are really religious people and my mom is sort of like yours. She believes that if there is no religion then people wouldn't be moral or anything. I'm an atheist as well because I like concrete proof that something exists. I don't really tend to take people's words for things.

I don't think religion is just to scare people into behaving. I think it's more about having a set of morals and having faith in something even when other people question it and even if there isn't any proof that it exists.

I also don't think people should be worshipping the gods and believing that they'll save the world that they ruined. I think that people should go out there and fix it themselves. Violence against a certain community of people is unacceptable. We should never harm people because they are different from us.
