Obviously if you were born if the certain region you have lived through this. Or at least grew up knowing about it. But to me watching the series has been one of the most impressive TV shows I've watched in a while. Scarier than all the new post-apocalyptic stories, because you already know it happened.

Even though historic TV shows can very easily end up dry, and even though we know how this ends- every week I can't wait until the next episode. Just from the trailer, you get this eerie horrifying feeling. It's one of the most heartbreaking and impactful things I have watched in a long time and it's worth watching. Unless you have lived through the situation itself, of course.

But for anyone else... it's one thing to know the history, the details... but this show was really thought through. Every detail, how buildings and clothes and everything looked, the way politics functioned... The choices people had to make to survive, the music, everything is carefully chosen. Plus in many TV shows you get a lot of the story of few people and then side characters are just there to move the story forward. But here we get to see small ways in which this affected even the side characters. I really recommend this to anyone who hasn't watched it- or lived it.

    What do you guys think?

I wasn't alive during the time of the initial incident, but I've always had an interest in Chernobyl, and the HBO miniseries really made me feel as though I was there during the event and watching it unfold. The show, in my opinion, is definitely worth your watch even if it does have a few flaws. The acting, the cinematography, the mood, it's all wonderfully made. However, there are facts in the show that the directors got mixed up or simply made up (i.e. Valery Legasov and Boris Shcherbina not actually being that close, Ulana Khomyuk's existence-- though she was made to represent every single scientist that investigated the incident-- and so on.) On top of that, despite being set in Ukraine, all the actors have British accents.

It was a good series, I like the atmosphere of the series. The vibrating sound was good and aerie. The effects of radiation poisoning was very good. Also the cast themselves where superb, I liked Boris. Though my Russian friends seem to have taken offense to the tv series. Back the official Soviet statistics of the events.
