I think it's incredible how everyone works differently. Personally, I cannot think clearly when I have disruptions, like music. It feels like multi-tasking for me, it's like trying to sing a long, while also trying to figure out a math equation. My mind is clouded and I can't do a simple task. I also can't enjoy the music, when doing my work.

Absolutely. Some reason it usually helps me concentrate a lot better even though I kinda just like tune it out. It's just kind of like the mood that it puts me in.

I personally love listening to music while studying. However, I listen to instrumental music when studying. I find that listening to regular songs with lyrics tend to make me unable to focus and mix up the words that I'm reading. However, with instrumental music, my mind relaxes and I'm able to focus much more.

Music in the background when I'm studying really makes me lose focus and start humming the music instead of focusing on studying. Some people can concentrate well on their task and listen at the same time, but I am not one of those people, and the quality of that study session decreases significantly when something else, like music, is distracting me.

I won't recommend this for anybody it going to distract your attention, how can someone be listening to music while studying?then you are doing two things at the same time.
So it's better you put-off the music and concentrate with your study when you are done then you can put on the music again, one thing at a time.
I come across this same issue sometime ago in a blog,I have forgotten the blog name so I have to conduct a questionaire on this both offline and online and majority of people replied that its seems to be multi-tasking.

If I'm reading or doing something I really need to concentrate on hard, I probably won't listen to music as it will just distract me. Although sometimes I like listening to music without any lyrics (jazz or classical) as it won't take so much of my concentration.

If I'm just doing some chill excercises that I don't need to concentrate on so hard, I sometimes listen to some pop music.

No way, I have tried over and over again to listen to music while studying but it is never effective. What tends to happen is, I get distracted by the music and begin to sing along. I study most efficiently when my environment is completely silent. On the other hand, when I try peaceful slow music, I tend to head to bed and get a good nap in. Music is just not a good idea for me when it comes to studying efficiently.

I am constantly telling my husband to please turn the music off. I have a much more difficult time remembering the information that I've read whenever the music is playing. I agree with Rozlyn, that quiet time is the only way I am able to fully comprehend all the study material.

When I began studying, I always want to have my favorite music playing, just out of habit. But then, I realize very quickly, I am going to do worse on my studies if I keep listening. It seems to be soothing or calming at first. Which always makes me think that it is a good idea. After a short amount of time, it is clear that I am distracted.

I prefer not to listen to music during a study session. However, I sometimes listen to white noise. I don't know how white noise compares to music or what kind of sounds can be considered music.

Most of the time studying, I don't listen to anything, but the white noise brings some variation to a maybe little dull study session.

I like background music playing while I'm studying because not only does it help me concentrate on my studies by giving me motivation and helping me stay awake throughout extended study sessions, it also boosts my memorization in some situations, most likely through eliciting a happy mood, which enhances my memory formation indirectly.

In some other circumstances, music that is calm and relaxing helps me battle tension or anxiety while studying.

Everything that creates sound distracts my study patterns, so I prefer not to listen to music when studying. But I do listen to songs that motivate me to study beforehand. It helps to clear the mind, and prep me for my review.

Yes and No. For me it depends on how serious I think I need to be at that moment. I have a low attention span so I need to be stimulated regularly and music does that for me while I'm reading so I don't have to go and look for other stimulants. Doing that would get me too distracted from my studying. That being said, the case is different when I have a test. The pressure is enough motivation for me to not require any stimulant while I study.

I need music to study. I have ADD so if I don’t have music my mind wanders. It’s hard to snap back once my mind wanders off and I begin thinking about all the things I can organize or clean. Once my mind is set on one thing it’s like I have to get it done. Music helps me focus on studying and the music itself so my mind doesn’t have the opportunity to wander. I definitely need music to study or it will turn into a quick study session.
