If our society did’t pressure us into working out. Would you still do it?

In out modern society working out is a ‘must’. It helps you lose weight (something apparently EVERYONE always wants), builds muscle, is healthy etc. I feel like because of this working out has gotten a bad rep. When I was growing up I never wanted to work out. But I love being active. I always associated working out with dieting and losing weight and I learned not to love it.

Even if society didn't pressure us to workout, the health benefits are so great that I would do it anyways. Reducing the risk of cancer and type 2 diabetes may let me live longer and be healthy later in life, which is a big plus. Also, I can improve my mood, which helps everywhere, even when you're taking your lazy time. It really boils down to whether you want to take that extra time now to watch an extra hour of TV or whether you're willing to exercise that hour and increase your life a few extra years.

I would still work out, since there are a lot of health benefits, and even if there were no health benefits, working out with friends is always super fun!

It isn't really about what society thinks or says it is all about you. What do you want, how do you want to live your life, do you want to just sit around grow fat and shapeless and feel good about it or do you want to shape uo and keep young and vibrant. Those are some of the questions i would pose to myself, and the truth is i once i do that i will definitely go out of my way and work out.

I have to have movement daily, even if it just stretching. Having those moments of where I don't do anything over a week or more. I feel it, I feel the affects of not moving, and when I get started I feel it. I enjoy the pain for the gain. Makes me feel alive.

    Very good question. :D
Probably not. You can think about it like this: If you were on a deserted island and you had all the food you would ever need, all your faves... for life. And you knew for a fact you would never, ever, be seen by anyone again... would you just eat and chill out every day? I certainly would! Because who cares? Ha
But in all honesty, I would probably do a lot of walking, only because I really, really love walking. WITHOUT a pedometer, for once. Walking just for fun. That would actually be a great life.

Some types of working out I'd definitely continue to do- I love to play sports, run, and go on hikes. Those are types of exercise! Obsessively sculpting my body at the gym, working out certain muscle groups, and purposely ignoring others to get the "right" figure...? No, I wouldn't do that.

The idea of society not pressuring people to work out is certainly an interesting one, but I don't think it would ever be feasible. To not pressure society to work out would be to not be fatphobic and hateful, and that's not realistic... yet.

I don't think I would workout, if I'm being honest. One of the reasons that I chose a career where I'm active most of the day is so that I don't have to workout. I get most of my walking and lifting exercises in while I'm doing my daily job. On the other side, I don't think I could do a job where I wasn't moving, because then I wouldn't be getting enough physically activity, and I would feel bad all the time!

I honestly would still work out. This is because, I usually use my work out time to zone out for a bit and to think I'm somewhere else. Working out for me has become less of a body image issue (though I would accept weight loss), but more of a time to just not be busy and do something more fun. Also, I would still do it for the health benefits, I think the health benefits of working out are incredibly valuable not just physically but mentally.
