Even though English is my first language, I definitely need subtitles when watching movies. I think it's because it's hard for me to only use my ears, and it requires me to pay much more attention, too. I'm more of a visual person, so having subtitles for me helps me understand the storyline more. I notice that when I don't use subtitles, I tend to drift off, which means I have to rewind the scene.

I never watch movies with subtitles. Subtitles are the absolute worst, and I only use them when the words being said are hard to understand or when I'm watching anime. All they do is clutter up the screen and make it harder to see what is going on. Why tell me what is being said when I can clearly hear what is being said? They make it very hard to enjoy movies and tv shows, but it's all personal preference at the end of the day.

Well since I suffer from hearing difficulty. I find it much more easier to watch the film with subtitles because without I miss much of what is said during the film even with headphones in. I also watch a lot of anime and since my Japanese isn't top quality I tend to always watch anime with subtitles. So I am used to subtitles.

I actually prefer it with subtitles, the main reason being that I'm not a native English speaker so I may understand something else sometimes.

I personally have a audio processing disorder, meaning my brain has trouble attaching meaning to words when they're verbal, so watching movies with subtitles is practically necessary. Although my family constantly gets mad at me lmao!!

I am Poland, but i learned English from a very young age.I didnt really study a lot, must of my english knowledge comes from watching movies and cartoons. So after a while i started watching movies without subtitles and its easy to understand every single word.So why would I watch a movie with subtitles.

As I get less young I find my hearing isn't quite as good as it used to be. It's actually not so much my hearing, as it is my ability to block background noises or to decipher monologue in an action scene amongst gun shots or revving car engines.

I used to absolutely HATE subtitles as I found them distracting and "in the way" of the actors. However, now that I've gotten used to them I barely notice the writing and am able to watch the movie and read the subtitles without even thinking about it!

Well, it's indeed helpful watching movies with subtitles, but sometimes watching a movie or a series without subtitles helps you improve your listening skills

It happens at first. But you'll get used to this soon.

i really love subtitles while seeing films as i am more of a book reader than a movie or binge watcher. plus ,it also helps me understand plots and inrtricate dialouges easier.

I love using subtitles, and often find that when I turn them off, the show seems a lot quieter. However, if I have them off for a long time my hearing adjusts. Sometimes subtitles can be funny too when they are describing sounds.

Sometimes when I'm watching shows that are pretty fast-paced I find it easier to go along when I can read and hear what the actors are saying at the same time. It helps to understand what's going especially when I find myself in a situation where I can't have the volume up!

I prefer to watch movies without subtitles because the subtitles distract me from the movie. When I have subtitles on I feel like I am reading the subtitles instead of watching the movie. I also feel that I do not understand the movie as clearly as I should.

I prefer watching movies with subtitles because sometimes actors are speaking kind of Gliberish and im not a native English speaker so it helps.

I recently started using subtitles because my children would be having too much fun for me to tell them, " Shut up, I'm watching Cobra Kai!" Now I can't watch without them.

I don't prefer watching subtitles because they are distracting. You get busy reading the subtitles instead of watching the movie.

But sometimes It becomes difficult to understand what is being said because of the low voice or the accent and it becomes necessary to watch with subtitles.

I like watching English movies without subtitles, because they crowed up the screen, and are extremely distracting, they make the movie watching less enjoyable. It's okay to watch other foreign language films with subtitles, but Hollywood English movies are good without the subtitles.

I find the subtitles to be useful for the little things that can be missed if you aren't paying attention or if there are parts spoken in foreign languages it helps to have a translation in the subtitles. However, overall don't usually use subtitles since they tend to distract me from the current scene.

Personally, I love watching movies and TV shows with subtitles, though I am often disappointed when some of the streaming services I use don't offer them. More often than not I find myself rewinding a scene over and over trying to make out what the characters are saying, with subtitles though, that is no longer a problem for me.

Subtitles are also great for people who may have hearing disabilities, I would assume it makes watching movies and TV shows a lot more enjoyable. I myself do not have any hearing disabilities, still, I sometimes find myself watching either a movie or TV show and not being able to properly hear them, due to background noise from my roommates, busy streets, and whatnot. So of course I love using subtitles, they're a life-saver for me!

Yet another reason I love subtitles is when I watch movies/shows that are in a language I am not super familiar with. I definitely agree with Jetselle Santo, at first, watching movies and shows while reading the subtitles at the same time was pretty hard. Once you get the hang of it though, it really pays off. Without subtitles, I would understand the basic plot but any other subplots and important details would totally fly over my head. For me, that would really take the fun out of watching any movies or shows. To add to that, learning how to multitask is a great skill and this is a pretty fun way to do it.

Overall, I feel like watching movies and shows with subtitles just makes the experience so much better. I won't have to worry about missing any details during the movie/show due to not being able to hear and I won't have to worry about not understanding what's happening when I watch a show/movie in a language I'm unfamiliar with.
