This is a tough question to think about because this is a thing that I want to happen so badly. I miss being able to go to the beach without worrying about getting sick and having to take two weeks of work off. Even when all restrictions are lifted, I think that things will still be different because this way of living has become almost our new normal which is extremely upsetting.

If history is to be taken into consideration, then I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed to go back to the way things were. The Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 had a very similar impact on folks with quarantine and mask requirements. Folks would even be ticketed or jailed if they refused to wear masks in some areas.

1918 feels like a long time ago, but in the grand scheme of things it really wasn't. Everything went back to 'normal' after a few years. Were there long term effects? Sure were, but normal is relative.

As for us with Covid, normal is also going to have to be relative. Will everything go exactly back to the way it was in August of 2019? Probably not. There'll be lots of small changes Covid will inspire, but the broad strokes are going to go back to normal. Most of the issues folks are having are the pains of wanting to go back to normal but not yet being allowed to. Assuming the vaccines work as we expect them to, give it a year and the parks will be full again, stadiums will be full of folks watching games, people will be doing group activities without masks, and services like buffets will open back up to the public. It's kind of inevitable, really.
