Despite the warnings from so many social campaigns, covid was the last nail in the coffin for me: I've become addicted to social media.

It began with texting friends and family more since I couldn't meet with them in person, but now I just scroll through memes and tiktoks until I'm trapped in a never ending vortex of mildly interesting content. Whenever I turn on my phone I instinctively go to these apps. Bored? Social media. Can't sleep? Social media. Waiting for the brownies to finish baking right before the start of the big game? I'm sure you can guess.

Anyone else experiencing this as well?

There was time when I was in college, social platforms like Facebook and Instagram were booming. It had become more like a social status to be live on facebook. I too had created an account from the nearest internet cafe, as I had not possess my own mobile or internet connection yet. Later, when I had bought my first new mobile, I had become addicted to facebook. I spent almost 8-10 hours a day just surfing here and there.

Thankfully, those days are over now. After I had joined my job, I had very less spare time to spend it for online sites. Slowly slowly my addiction started to drift away.

I'm personally not, but I feel like a good amount of people are. I saw a post that asked what it would be like if social media didn't exist and there was a comment that said a lot of people would be happier. But a lot more people would lose their mind. I've seen dozens of people on Twitter losing their minds when Facebook or Instagram goes down for a few hours.
