How many of you cannot enter the gym without your phone, or some form of device to listen some tunes while you work out? Personally, music drives my workout, especially if I am listening to a track that was my all time favorite back in the days. It will mean that I forget about exercise and just go into day dreaming; memories with those tunes and before you know it, the workout is over and done.

I need music while exercising. The angrier the music, the better. It helps me forget about my fatigue and I get a better workout in. What songs are most often in your workout playlist? Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine, Lose Yourself, by Eminem, Super Shooter, by Rip Slyme, Excuse Me, Mr., by No Doubt are usually on my playlist. Plenty of others too.

Music while working out is an absolute necessity. The only downside of this is when earphones don't stay put during movement but I am willing to put up with this to have my workout playlist. Even with taking a simple jog, I need music to distract and focus my thoughts on anything but the fact that I'm running. I've tried running without music however I just focus on the actual act of running too much, and the more I think about the fact that I'm running the more likely I am to stop more frequently or end my run early. Also music helps me to keep a good rhythm while exercising.

I suffer from social anxiety, and music at the gym really helps me stay focused. It’s like I’m in my own world, no one else matters. The chatter, the grunting, the random stares are all in the background when I have music in my ears. I find it also helps me push myself harder because I can’t hear my own grunts and therefore don’t feel self conscious and just continue on with my work out. I listen to alot of Abba, not sure why but the songs just get me pumped and put me in a good mood. I also like to sync my movements with the beat. I don’t understand how people can work out without music. It’s a must for me.

For concentration or motivation, I think it can be good to listen to music. I like to listen to music that makes you feel confident but also puts you in a good mood while trying to get fit.

To ease tension and for relaxation I listen to music that will encourage me, motivate me, drive my passion, drive me towards success, music that makes me feel good and better with myself

I totally agree. As a fellow member of the social anxiety club, I absolutely need music in order to ignore all the people around me, and the thoughts that they might be judging me from afar. In fact, this applies to most public spaces, not just the gym.

The human brain tends to get bored easily that is why when you do repetitive activities you need to add some extra activities to make it more fun, I like to listen to metal, electro, hiphop, etc. to do my daily physical activity.

I really enjoy bringing music with me to the gym. It helps me to block out distractions and it also motivates me to keep going. It helps me to zone out as well, so I get to daydream while moving and I feel oddly productive. I think it's very enjoyable and helps be drown out the sound of my own heavy breathing. Besides, if I start dancing, dance can also be a form of exercise (though I doubt that I'd do that if there are other people around).

I feel that on a spiritual level. There's nothing quite like making a high energy workout playlist, and then sweating it out for a good hour or so. I've been in the gym pretty regularly these days. I also love the fact that these a stereo with an aux jack in our workout room. I can bring my phone and listen to Spotify while I work on my physique.
