I have to say it took me 2 years of practice to reach the skill I am currently at. Sometimes I made mistakes in selecting the correct shade for my eyes or lips and cheeks and to learn this youtube tutorials have helped me in improving my knowledge and skills.

@elliemae1678, Make up is definitely an art, While good makeup can make a great impression, poorly done makeup can really be a deal breaker. In todays world where looks do matter, makeup actually takes the form of art.

As a photographer who has had my share of work with models, I can say that it can be something of an art. In general, I would say no. Your everyday makeup, even for special occasions, probably does not fit this category. However, when someone spends hours getting things just right for either a photoshoot or for something like a movie, it would be difficult to argue that it isn't.

I'm not really a makeup guy myself. But I do have a deep respect for folks who can...appropriately apply makeup. Skilled makeup artists can change someone's appearance like magic. I feel like it definitely should be considered an art form. You have to have some form of creativity and vision to blend colors with skin tone. Use light and shadow to make different effects. You're basically a painter in my humble, non-makeup-guy opinion.
