Do you watch a movie with subtitles or without?

My answer actually depends on the language the movie is using. If it is based in my country, I prefer not to watch with subtitles because I only find it distracting. I often watch English movies without subtitles, unless I barely understand anything because of the accent.

 

I'm fond of watching foreign movies, so I really to watch with subtitles. I prefer it because, for me, English dubbed versions change the impact of the scenes and the story. If I'm trying to learn the foreign language, however, I'd prefer to watch foreign movies without English subtitles, so I can learn how to pronounce and what context are the words are being used.

 

I HAVE to have subtitles on when watching a movie or tv show! I am a mother of 2 small children, so during the day my kids are the primary members who are in charge of the remote. However, spite the day being filled with children shows subtitles are not a concern nor are they used, as my kids find them distracting. When bed time hits, and my kids are in their rooms sleeping that is when it is my time to watch whatever it is I want to watch. Seeing how my kids are sleeping, I always make sure to have the volume on low.

Movies today I find the conversations are always low volume and the action parts are always extremely loud with the accompanied music. So instead of playing DJ with the remote and fidgeting with the volume per scene of the movie, subtitles just makes the experience more enjoyable and smoother without any fuss.

 

Netflix has destroyed subtitles for me. They are almost always incorrect or mega slow. I'm always thinking to myself about how I'm glad I'm not actually deaf while trying to watch the show, because I'd have zero(0) idea what's going on before it's too late. My folks think it's funny when I start going crazy about "Get those subtitles off the screen. We all speak english already."

They just clutter the screen at this point.

And don't even get me started on subbed anime....

 

I watch Movies with Subtitles sometimes, but I prefer without Subtitles...
If it's incorporated into the Movie and I can't turn it off I'll watch it with Subtitles...

And I am fluent English, but when the Subtitles are on, I spend more time reading the words than watching the faces...
It's like the fact that there are words there distracts me from the Actors...

With subtitles its really good if you are watching the original series not the dubbed version

 

I have kids and they have a tendency to try to over power the volume of whatever movie or show I am watching. I find that when I watch with subtitles it helps me focus less on the surrounding noise and tune in to what I am watching. Of course the kids win the battle sometimes but I have learned to enjoy without the sound.

I watch both, but subtitles are better for me. I watch lots of japan and korean films so I need subtitles to understand them.
Also when it is film with language that I little bit know, then I watch without subtitles.

 

To be honest, I personally despise subtitles! I get distracted by the words on the screen and end up missing vital parts of the movie. However, to each their own, and I don't judge those who watch with subtitles, I just personally do not gain any benefit from doing so. If the movie is in a different language than English, however, it becomes a different scenario all together, and I watch with English subtitles.

Overall, however, I do find that subtitles distract me from the movie that I am watching as I focus more on the text than I do what's actually going on in the movie.
