Why do we watch TV and Movies?

Have you ever really thought about why we watch things on Tv and in the theaters, I mean yeah its fun and its something to do with friends and your family but is there any other reason that you watch these things? To get away from something? To live another life?

 

We watch TV to get away in my opinion. It entertains your mind and exercises your thought. There is so much expression and creativity in a movie or TV show, and by watching it, it captures our heart and minds.

Leaving us with an urge to do more with ourselves or to make changes in our lives.

It’s a powerful tool but like the internet we can’t do without it.

 

Most of the people (including myself) watch movies or tv shows because it is a form of entertainment that is very accessible and it can be quite enjoyable.
On the other hand, some people watch them because they want to get away from the real life and they can relate to the characters.

 

We watch TV and Movies to get away from our lives I'm guessing. I mean in TV/Movies the stories are so perfect. Some even wish to live inside the TV/Movie universe. Plus, it's also a time killer

 

I watch TV shows and movies as a way to relax and something to entertain me when I have nothing else to do. I am not the person to rush out to the theater when a new movie comes out, but I will rent a movie from Redbox on a rainy night if it is a movie that I want to see. I was just on vacation for 10 days and never turned the TV on. It is not a main priority for me.

 

We watch tv/movies because it's entertaining. Often time people have nothing to do so they sit down and turn on the tv and watch tv for hours.

 

There are a few reasons why people watch television and movies. The main reason I believe is due to the fact from day one we are exposed to it and by the time we are old enough to really understand that television is a form of entertainment, we accept it as a normal part of everyday life. The same holds true for movies.

 

Movies and television provide us with a temporary escape from our reality, very similar to what books can accomplish. What is presented on our screens is pretty much limitless in content - a truly fascinating thing. We can essentially take a look at different realities aka things or perspectives we wouldn't normally be confronted with on an everyday basis. Humans are inherently curious creatures and we tend to want to know more than we already do (just look at our advancements over the last two decades alone). Currently, there seems to be a greater focus on films in the science fiction genre. Though fiction, one can't help but wonder while watching these films: what if?
The television and movie industry capitalize greatly on our fascination of the unknown and we buy right into it.

 

Well i watch tv series especially comedy after a long day of work i need something to let me laugh a forget the day away just a time for me and only me i find it enjoyable.

 

I agree, I think we watch tv and movies to escape and relax. I know I watch tv because it takes me to another place. I love science fiction most of all, but I will watch anything as long as it has a good story. I have Netflix and it is the best way to watch tv in my opinion. I can watch whenever I want and wait for the kids to go to bed to watch shows they can't see.

 

I watch TV and movies as a way of escape and relaxation. At the end of the day most time I watch tv in bed on my to sleep. I find looking at movies as as a way to unwind and enjoy looking into the lives of others. I often enjoy a lot of reality tv, it has to be one of my quilty pleaures,.

 

I used to watch tv to momentarily escape from a busy and tiring day. However, since the time I had to sit supposedly to relax was usually time for tv news programs, I often ended up feeling more disappointed than relieved. News, especially on corrupt government officials really annoys me. So now, I watch tv only when I need news updates because of my work.

 

Televisions and movies are nowadays a basic requirement. We do not choose to watch a TV, but it is part of us. Since a TV has overtaken a radio in terms of news delivery and enjoyment, then it is part of us.
I have personally watched a TV for entertainment, learning, relieving boredom and stress. I watch movies for enjoyment and learning new things. A TV also helps me understand what is going in my country. Without a TV, the world will be a blackout.

 

I think exactly that's why, to live another life. That's why I don't like movies with ordinary stories or even based on true events, that's something we can see or hear in real life and movies should be about something extrordinary, magical that let us imagine what would it be like if we were them. Oufcourse, there is also very good movies about true life stories, but my vote always goes to the sfi type of movies.

 

We watch movies or TV for entertainment, to get fresh. Life is very very stressful. Watching TV or movies gives you break from the stress and tensions of life. After working hard the whole day, the mind and body both needs rest. This we get by watching TV or movies, as we don't have to exert ourselves, we can just relax and enjoy. At least, that's why I watch it.

I love to watch comedy shows. It relaxes you and also gives you reason to laugh out loud.

 

We watch tv and movies to primarily entertain ourselves. I find watching tv shows relaxing and introspective at the same time. Binge watching is one of my most favorite activity. Every time you watch a tv show or a movie there is a certain feeling that they evoke, the magic of being transported to another world at least for the next two hours. Watching movies or tv shows is nice way to unwind, spend your weekend or bond with your family.

 

I think movies allow us to escape. Moreover, there is value in that however it is more than simple escapism. Movies take us to different places we have never been and inside the skin of other people quite different from ourselves. They offer people a window onto the wider world, broadening our perspective and opening our eyes to another new wonders.

This window idea figures into the very form of films itself. One of my favored film theorists, Andrey Bazin, often associated the cinematic “shot” to a framed window that hints at a vast reality just outside of view. Different theorists saw the framed shot as something that restricts or limits what can be seen , what is inside the shot, Bazin theorized that the film image through its suggestion of off-screen space was about being part of somewhat prolonged indefinitely into the universe.” Siegfried Kracauers, another of my preferred film theorists, agreed that the film image was by nature indeterminant, ambiguous and open-ended—a fragment of reality suggesting endlessness.

 

I think we watch movies or T.V to get away from our lives or to pass our time. To find our life or to picture ourselves as the protagonist of the movie or a T.V series. When we watch a movie or some T.V series we like to think about how much better or exciting our lives would be if the events in the movie or T.V series were to happen in real life and we would be a part or better be the protagonist of those events. Sometimes the events in reel life are so similar to our real life that we begin to relate to those events and become more interested in them.
Watching movies makes us imagine a world which is exciting. Alex Pascal in his post said a great thing and I quote "Movies takes us to different places we have never been and inside the skin of other people quite different from ourselves".
I don't think that we will ever stop watching T.V or movies because these things makes our imagination wonderful, it brings peace to our mind and makes us laugh and cry.

 

I think we watch TV and movies to escape reality and to be out of "ourselves" for a while. Our lives can be good or bad but we can turn it off for a while and forget our circumstances. We can also project our own personality in the characters and think about what we would do in their places.
