For those of you who are unaware of this, it has been discovered that those who are naturally thin have a different bacteria in their stomach then those who are obese. They bacteria aid in your digestion and work alongside your metabolism to help you to burn fat faster. Now they are genetically trying to create these bacteria to give to obese individuals to aid them in weight loss. I would love the idea of losing weight, but I see this as a potential health risk. You are not born with this particular bacteria in your body and so you are introducing a foreign entity into your system. This can create all kinds of havoc in your system....

Here are the articles I got this information from.

I also think that this won't be very effective, as the human organism is created different in a certain way, and for a reason - if there is no homeostasis and no harmony in how your body accepts the "foreign bacteria", then it won't really do much good in the long run. It's a bit like taking probiotics - you need to take them regularly, because otherwise they just get flushed out of the organism, and their effect will be insignificant.

Absolutely! How many times have they attempted similar ideas only to have them back fire? Even with organ transplants, they have discovered that even if they use the persons own genetic material to create the organ or an artificially made one the body would reject it and in many cases the patient has died or became extremely ill as a result. This is no different. Your body was not born with it so as a result, it would most likely reject it and could cause future issues.

I see this as possibly being a complete disaster. As mentioned above, this is a foreign substance that is being introduced into your body that has never been there before. Also, your body does not have the capacity to produce this substance naturally (in the bodies of those who who do not possess it), so this would mean continuous introduction of this foreign substance if the "treatment" were to not work. My fear would be of adverse side effects occurring which would lead to more foreign objects being ingested, or experiments having to take place to find an aid to a problem that could have been avoided.

I really believe in the old fashioned way of losing weight: consistently eating healthy, exercise, and getting proper rest. All of this genetic engineering is bad, bad news and should be avoided like the plague. Usually genetic engineered anything that is put into a natural anything equals severe consequences for the natural. These engineered health "inventions" need to be banned in my opinion because they provide a short term fix but give a lifetime of adverse health side effects.

I am very thin I thought after having my children it would be hard to drop the weight . I was wrong I'm actually smaller than I was post children. I would have never guessed the reason being a bacteria in my stomach . I would think this is probably a bad idea as a wright loss option. It seems like a very bad idea to me.

I don't like the sound or thought of that. Its one of those God didn't mean for everybody to be skin kinda of things but not only that but you are a harmful bacteria into another person body. I'm good. I've been losing my weight on my own and I'm down 85 lbs with 40 more to go so I can finish this on my own. Good article though and interesting.

Here is an easy rule to follow. If you didn't make it, don't mess with it! What in the world do those scientists think they're doing? There is no need to create more bacteria on earth. We have plenty and if there needs proof then look inside your mouth. There are thousands of bacteria inside and outside of our body. It is totally nonsense that people in today's world which we called, "Scientific experts" are doing. The science community should not support this idea and put a stop to it. The percentage of causing more trouble is higher than creating something good.

The genetic engineered bacteria could work, as it has shown results in mice in the labs and in humnas it may not work as intended and the body could even reject the lab made bacteria when trying to put it in the body. I hope, this is monitored if the test does get approved on humans as anything can happen the person may lose more weight than needed or have a bad reaction and suffer from something else which could be unknown to the researchers. I think, weight loss should be done by natrual means by exercising or changing what you eat as using man made products can have side effects and sometimes they can be severe as well in the long run.
