I recently heard a sermon on speaking in tongues. The pastor stated that every person who had been baptized in the Holy Spirit should have a prayer language (tongues). The pastor had verse after verse of proof from the Bible that proved that tongues is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. For example, “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages (tongues) as the spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:4 NLT). In Acts 19:6 (NLT), the Bible says, “Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.” Verses in Galatians, Mark, and 1 Corinthians also discuss the gift of tongues after the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I was raised in a church that believed tongues was a gift given when you were speaking to people who did not speak your natural language, so God gave you their language to speak to them about the Gospel.

What are your beliefs on tongues and their connection to the Holy Spirit baptism?
