In elderly patients with moderate to severe depression and reduced quality of life, does exercise as a treatment modality enhance their quality of life and preference for life sustaining interventions, compared with those treated with pharmacological measures?

I believe that even the smallest physical activity will help to increase their quality of life. It is scientifically known that exercise can be used as a coping strategy as physical activity results in the breakdown of stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline) and also results in the release of endorphins (hormones that improve mood). It may take some time but it is worth a shot.

I think exercising daily can definitely help the patients who are suffering from depression. Exercise can release the stress in our body and slowly and steadily help in bringing the patients out of the state of depression.

But Depression is related to the mind of a person . So to more effectively tackle with this disease, one has to practice meditation and Yoga along with the physical activity. The combination of exercise and Yoga will be the most effective way of tackling depression.
