There lies great confusion in the subject of the societal "psychopath and sociopath." I wish to highlight the distinguishing factors between the two individuals in this post.

First you have to understand that both cases are psychological-behavioral disorders and as such:
    • Both characters have an antisocial personality disorder.
    • Both the psychopathic individual and the sociopathic character will lack empathy.
    • Both show common disregard for social rules.
    • Both are ridden of remorse or guilt.
    • Both characters are naturally violent in nature.
Those are the basic similarities. Now here goes the differences between the two individuals:
    • The psychopath's behavior can be hereditary while the sociopath's behavior is developed from the environment.
    • The psychopath will exhibit controlled behavior while the sociopath's behavior will be erratic with frequent bursts of rage and anger.
    • The psychopath is highly manipulative while his counterpart is impulsive and spontaneous.
    • The psychopath is mostly educated and will even have a career; the sociopath is uneducated and lacks a stable job.
    • The psychopath is unable to form personal attachments while the sociopath is usually attached with specific groups or people.
    • The psychopath normally calculates risk while his opposite will be reckless.
    • Psychopaths minimize clues and evidence; sociopaths have a tendency to leave clues and evidences of their exploits.

Lastly, statistical figures estimate psychopaths to be roughly 1% for a given population while sociopaths are equivalently 4% of the same. So what is your take?
